Default Vudu is finally coming to Fire TV

I'm glad this is happening. Finally.

Cool, but I'm still throwing out my one Amazon stick for another reliable Roku.

^ Yes! My Fire stick is slow and glitchy. Looking to upgrade to the new Google Chromecast 4K gizmo.

The app is available on my Fire Cube 4k as of this morning. Curious enough, it looks like a streamlined version of the "hack app" all of us that jailbroke our devices have been using. They could not have put less effort into it if they tried. I assumed we would get an Apple+-like app with the same missing sales functionality? Nope. It's a bit too familiar. That said, I have yet to sit down and test it for quality. The hack app had its issues. Hopefully, that does port over to the official app.

Downloaded the App...

Here's the interesting thing, it shows that I purchased some movies as HDX, but is only giving me an option to "Play SD." Not that big of a hassle for me to use the vudu stream off my Blu Ray Player, but still odd to me that it has the limit.

my brother just told me about vudu on the fire stick today so I deleted the hacked version and dowloaded the now available app and yeah its basically the same thing. I really wish it was like the apple tv app so that I can have access to mylists(although it took about a year to finally get that feature on the apple tv app).

Yeah, this app shouldn't have been released. Can only play UHD movies in SD, no support for Fire tablets.

Amazon also appears to be blocking reviews of the app, said it would take "several days" before a review would be posted, when every other review gets posted instantly. Even they know the app is garbage.

really that sucks. I have a 4k fire stick but don't own a 4k tv. The uhd movies I own are playing in HDX.

Has anyone confirmed this is the official app? I only say this because it has no company logos or indication of anything directly VUDU-related within the app itself outside of content? Does anyone else find this odd? Along with the fact that I state again, this is basically the hack-app cleaned up. Does that mean that VUDU made an app to allow users to side-load the platform on a device it had no deal or support agreement with prior to this barebones release? I cannot be the only one that finds that hard to imagine. Added to that, every single press release stated very clearly that the app would not be available on FireTV until the end of the month. Not in a week's time or a few days. Which this app showed up in. I got curious and pulled my old Roku out of mothballs. I checked the current developer information as of March 1st, version 1.3.322615. Developer: VUDU. Not Fandango as it is listed on this app. Upon further inspection, there is not a single similarity between apps. Can we honestly say that about any other service that has launched an app on another platform? I cannot be the only one that thinks something is off here? I cannot believe VUDU would be this lazy with one of the most requested platform apps out there. Does it make any sense at all?

Edit: Exhibit A:

That is a review of the four-year-old AppleTV app in action. Nothing at all like this app. Not even close.

It's the official app. The only way to login is through an activation code from vudu.com.

This is, BY FAR, the WORST streaming app I have ever used. They must have zero quality control. Everything purchased in UHD streams in SD.

They must have just said, "We have to get something out there, just release it and we'll patch it later."

Crickey! I forgot about the activation code during login.

They HAVE TO BE JOKING WITH THIS CRAP !!!!! We already had this for the most part. It was the reason I kept the Roku. I suppose this could be my excuse to give the Apple 4k TV a spin once the 2021 upgrade model is announced on the 23rd. I don't have the 4k to SD problem. What is a huge issue is that this app is literally maxing out my video stream between 6 and 9MB on a 1GIG line. I get 18-20MB in Amazon. 20-25MB in both Movies Anywhere and Apple. Even HBO Max and Netflix hit 20-25 without a glitch. Less the occasional HBO Max bugs that bounce you out. It is like getting busted back to DVD quality-wise without saying it is playing in SD. I have just over 2400 movies and 110 TV shows in VUDU right now. I cannot scrap it so I guess it is on to Plan B. Given how pathetic this effort is I am going to sit around and wait for them to fix it. They clearly couldn't give a crap about the FIRE TV Users.

I'm thinking of getting an amazon tablet- does anyone know if you can put Vudu on them now since you can get it on the fire stick?

I finally went back to Roku about a month ago because I was sick of Firestick, and didn't love it and the fact that they didn't have Vudu was a HUGE one for me. Now they have Vudu but I'm not leaving Roku.

Meh. Fire Sticks are glitchy as shite, and don't get me started with constant PQ bufferings and janky 24p playback!

Roku is OK with the Vudu app, but it konks out on Vudu Free with Ads stuff and requires a damned restart every time!

Vudu app on the Sony UBP-X800 is smooth as ice! And has 24p support too!

Hopefully, this is just an early version, and will be upgraded to the fully-realized version everyone wants.

Vudu just probably released the old version since so many people were sideloading it anyway. The team working on the FireTV platform might be like two people right now.

If you've been using Vudu for a while, you'll notice their initial app releases leave a lot to be desired. I'm sure over time it will get updated to match the experience that's on devices like Roku and ATV.

I just checked yesterday and it's still only showing the movies in SD, even if you've purchased HD or HDX.

Thankfully, my Blu Ray player from 2013 still has the Vudu app and plays in full quality.
