S-Video to HDMI converter for laserdisc player

Can someone suggest an affordable S-Video to HDMI converter box. I would like to connect my old laserdisc player to my Denon AVR-1713 and then to my TV, but neither have an S-Video jack. I've read that some models don't upsample that well and the resulting picture looks like crap. I would like to get the best picture I can, thanks.

Well even upconverted S-Video won't look that good especially on a 50" TV or larger.

I run the analog video out to my Integra receiver and let my receiver upconvert it to 1080p. Through lots of testing I found that this looks the best. Also the more noise reduction and edge enhancement you use the worse the laserdisc will look.

some Panasonic or older pioneer dvd/vhs combo player would do a better job than most in your case.

these combo players have decent 3D comb filters (better kind than you LD player and receiver) they can also digitize picture and output as Hdmi.

anything beyond this you are going into big bucks territory. broadcast grade outboard tbc/3d comb filer, outboard video processors etc..

Try the composite video output from the LD player first. LD video was stored as a composite signal anyway, the S-video output jack is doing the Y/C separation, but your 15+ year newer AVR and/or TV may do a better job handling it anyway.

That should produce the same quality image...

Thanks guys, it sounds like using a basic yellow RCA cable to receiver is the way to go. For audio I'll be using optical out from my laserdisc to my Yamaha RF converter, and optical to receiver. Guess I'll still need the red/white RCA audio cables for non AC3/DTS discs though.
