The only movie I can recall wanting to rent and only having a dvd option was Under the Silver Lake, but I will come across it at some point down the road for a good price and simply buy it. They eliminated the distribution center in St Louis, which has added an extra day to my turnaround usually....but I have plenty of other things to watch if necessary, so it is not a dealbreaker for me.

Discs are not on "the way out" no matter how badly you wish it were so. We are getting more titles released on disc, year after year, not less. They will outlast you. I plan to place a copy of Dumb And Dumber on your grave. ![]() Netflix would not continue to offer discs by mail if it was not in their interest to do so. Contrary to your foolish beliefs, businesses are not fond of engaging in fruitless endeavors. Netflix's disc by mail service still serves 2.7 million subscribers. One of the biggest reasons why people still subscribe to it is for the selection. "Anyone who has perused the digital aisles of their streaming service will know the options can be limited. Netflix streaming reportedly has fewer than 6,000 film and TV titles, while DVD Netflix has about 100,000." https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/04/media...rnd/index.html Netflix offers a vastly wider selection of movies with their disc by mail service than they do with their streaming selection; something you would realize if you actually used the service. But when has your not knowing anything about a subject kept you from advertising your ignorance about it? Redbox offers only a handful of new releases, typically 48-60 titles per kiosk, and that is a microscopic selection compared to what Netflix offers, which further underscores that you do not know what you are talking about. If you would just limit yourself to commenting about that which you do know something we would all be able to enjoy the resulting peace and quiet. Last edited by Vilya; 07-06-2019 at 05:07 PM. |

I use Netflix's disc service indirectly thru my sister's subscription and we have had almost no issues with it. The turnaround time is as good as it ever was and receiving damaged discs occurs only very rarely.

Yeah, I have a feeling, and it is only a gut feeling it is an existing member who likes to troll it up with an alter ego. What’s even funnier is knowing wherever they post the usual suspects will be here to chime in. *Cough* Vilya

Donster I have been here longer than you have, and I Post to defend Digital. Vilya likes to discredit me to preserve Discs. I only mentioned Red Box because I used them a lot, I also used Netflix Rental when they first started out of Los Gatos, CA. Red Box is getting into Digital more and more.

![]() You do all of the discrediting yourself. You post the same absurdities ad nauseum. I am far from being the only person to call you out for it. My sound criticism of your nonsensical posts no more "preserve discs" than your ridiculous remarks harm them. You should take comfort in knowing that digital is fine despite your defense of it. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Vilya; 07-07-2019 at 04:33 AM. |

A back-catalog of legacy films are not even on their scale / radar. That includes films that were blockbuster status in their day, but no longer justify / rank being available for on-demand rotation. Pssst: a lot of we disc owners are just watching the discs still, not ripping them to watch from media servers. Turns out, the machines that play them are still widely available. |

You have never answered: What will you do if cheap codes should disappear? The rest of you post has been refuted and explained to you numerous times and yet you continue to post that trite over and over. I have encountered slow learners, don’t remember any zero learners before you. BTW, I have been here almost 3 years longer than you. I will let you detail what that means. |

You also continue to assume that streaming providers want to increase their streaming bitrates and there is no evidence at all to support that assumption. They have been at the same levels since 2015. Higher steaming bitrates would use more bandwidth and that would increase costs. Streaming customers are largely value minded and they will not want to pay more when they are already satisfied with what they are getting now. You also forget that "fiber to the home" internet service is unavailable in many parts of the U.S. Servers are a poor long term storage method; they have an average lifespan of just five years. Even if all of your "ifs" came true and streaming someday provides quality equal to that of a disc it still does not provide actual ownership. You do not have possession of the file and therefore you have zero control over what happens to it. Last edited by Vilya; 07-07-2019 at 04:01 PM. |

PenguinInfinity is correct, Netflix is definitely the best and least expensive when it comes to rental. Something I could never fathom with Red Box or anywhere else was feeling like I was on a time clock. With Netflix something could sit on my shelf as long as I wanted without accruing a late fee.

He thinks the answer to everything is "fiber to the home" internet service combined with his insistence that streaming be done only over a wired home network. He has no inkling of the importance of the connection between the customer and the CDN. He thinks all streaming issues can be fixed by using a wired connection. When you point out that the same issues occur over a wired connection he doesn't know what to say and he finally clams up. |
