I read somewhere that this may not be the real thing. Warner has the rights to RKO in America, but Universal has the rights in the UK (& I'm sure elsewhere). The Universal UK releases didn't look that good, as they didn't have good enough elements, I wonder what masters are being used for the Japanese RKO releases? Having said all that, I'm sure we'll get a great looking Yellow Ribbon from Warner sooner rather that later, as it was on their voting lists, & I have a feeling that every title on that list was done & ready to go.

John Wayne´s last movie "The Shootist" will be released on April 15th on blu-ray.
But a firm called Pidax will release that movie, not Paramount.

Is PIDAX a good company? I've never heard of them before.

I have to say, for whatever it's worth, the screen shots on that webpage at Amazon.de look fantastic. I'm guessing this will be a region B locked disc?

Warner Archive posted on Facebook that these releases are not from their original elements. IVC has rights to the RKO library in Japan. Warner's said they have no involvement in these releases and no idea what elements are being used for these Japanese releases. Buyer beware.

According to the BRDC page, it's "Region B (A, C untested)". Well, I can only hope it passes the test () or else I'm locked out.

I'm hoping that Pidax has licensed it from Paramount (which I'm sure is the case), & if so, maybe more Paramounts to come (& more Duke), but the release is not until April, there could very well be an announcement of an American release before then.

Though I´m German I don´t know because I don´t own a DVD/Blu-ray by Pidax. But a friend of mine told me that Pidax DVD´s or blu-rays are generally very good.

I´m going to purchase the Blu-ray, then I´ll let you know how the picture quality is

Pidax said on a German forum that "The Shootist" will be released with a brandnew HD master!!!!

Pidax releases so many vintage German films I would like to see, but they almost never have English options, which is frustrating. I'm in Germany now and there are plenty of Pidax Blus I see at the store that I would like to have. I know I can't always expect the world to conform to me, but it would be nice if it did!

I've heard nothing but good things about the Pidax Blu of the 1952 Richard Brooks/Humphrey Bogart U.S. film, DEADLINE USA, so I'm guessing THE SHOOTIST will be a great transfer. I look forward to your review, Seagal.

It's a long way off, but when someone who also has a Region A machine gets this, please post whether-or-not it's truly a LOCKED Region B disc, please. Sometimes discs say "B" but still play on "A" (fingers crossed).

Warner is going to release "Chisum" in Germany in June. Maybe a good sign for an upcoming blu-ray release in the USA.
