I'm sooo.... green about this BLU. I have the LiteOn Burner and am using geforce 9800 graphics card on a nForce 750a SLI motherboard. I have PowerDVD 8.0 but am having trouble getting past the HDCP not enabled. I am trying to use the HDMI out from the motherboard . HELP... please, anyone.

Hi, I am very new to Blu-Ray.
Over Christmas and my birthday, I replaced my 27" TV with a 50" plasma, my 15 year old Panasonic receiver with an Onkyo 606 and my 12 year old Sony DVD with a PS3 (160 GB). Gotta love those AIG bonuses! (kidding!). I don't have any Blu-Ray movies so far, but the size of the TV, the incredible surround sound and the PlayStation games have been awesome. Now that the biggest investments have been made, it is time to reload for BR movie purchases! So I am looking forward to delving into this site and gathering useful information. ~Krejaton |

Hi all,
I just signed up a short while ago. I hope youguys will go easy on this old GEEZER! I am not new to HT in general, I first got interested in it about 15 yrs ago, but I am somewhat unfamiliar with forums. I have some difficulty grasping all the little tools and features to make it do what you want. I am going to have a BUNCH of questions about the forum itself, and HD, Blu-Ray, and how to set up my receiver and BD player. This looks like an excellent forum and I am looking forward to participating and making some new friends. H ![]() ![]() |

EDIT: Herb, the link below will direct you to your player's official website where it seems there are 2 firmware updates available. i would download the earliest before doing the newest and follow the directions included with the download. if you have further questions there is a link on the site to email customer service. hope this helps ![]() http://www.sharpusa.com/products/Typ...86,229,00.html |

Hi,
Thanks for your quick reply. Please forgive me if I'm being too OBTUSE here, but I have always had a difficult time grasping all this techno-geek stuff. I Should be much further along than I am, but I still have to read three pages of text sometimes to understand something that boils down to three clicks on the computer. My player has a USB port. As I understand it, you download the firmware update to a thumb drive, plug the thumb drive into the back of the player and using the player's remote, follow the directions that appear on the TV screen. I have been reluctant to do this for fear of botching the job and making the player not work at all. I have finally decided to make the attempt and with your advice, I think it will happen at last! Where I am unsure is: how to get the correct file on the thumb drive in the first place. The "Read Me" file on the download is pretty much the same as the player's owner's manual, so I think I can follow it OK when I find the correct file. Now for the big question: the instructions say to be sure to "extract" the file to the "root drive not a subfolder on the root drive. I have downloaded it several times and I'm unsure which is right. I have got it on my main hard drive. I have it on the thumb drive in a sub folder, and on the thumb drive showing the update file and a read me file. ( no sub folder). I don't know what I clicked, but somehow, the last time I tried to DL it to thumb drive, I wound up with a zip file, a read me file, and the update in a subfolder. So, I have deleted everything on the thumb drive. Then, I MOVED the update file from my computer's hard drive to the thumb drive. AS it stands right now, I have the 29.2 GB update file by itself on the thumb drive. Sharp's website says that tis update includes all previous updates and patches. Will this work, or should I re download the update to the thumb drive and leave the read me file in place? Thanks for your help and I apologize for being so long winded. I realize that I am making a big deal out of what probably a three minute project for a computer wiz. thanks, Herb |
