Nice, funny I replaced my 27" tube TV as well . It died. You can read my short story in my gallery.

Although, your 50" plasma would be better than mine. Only have a 37" LCD TV but very happy with it!

From one noobie to another, welcome!

Hi Again,
Thanks again for your help. AsUSUALmyproblem here was not caused bythe main problem at hand, but by some simple thing that I should have learned years ago. I have never much needed to fool with compressed files and have tried to use them. The firmware update comes down as a 25MB zipped file and I could not figure out how to extract it to the root folder of the flash drive without being in a subfolder. I finally opened it up in another folder in MY DOCS and cut and pasted it onto the flash drive. Then it worked fine!

PS
another NOOB ???
You can see that I have this entire post in BOLD. I was only trying to highlight a couple of words in bold. Now it must look like I am Yelling at you, sorry. How do you turn off the bold after it's on?

Thanks Herb

Default My Update

HI.
I have been agonizing over this SHARP BDHP20U for many months and it was totally for nothing. When I finally did it, the firmware update was an absolute total piece of cake! It took less time than getting the stupid file on to the thumb drive.
This player has always had absolutely stunning picture and sound, but it never has worked like it should. It was always slow and erratic. The menus and other controls never worked properly.
Anyway, now, it is completely up to date with Sharp's latest firmware.
If it plays at all, it has to be better than it was.
We will see what happens now!
I'll let you know.

Herb

WOW!
I'll say "that's quite a collection!" Let's hope they don't come out with a "NEW FORMAT" anytime soon.
Can you suggest a few to me that have great 7.1 sound? I am somewhat picky about buying discs because there are very few movies that I really want to watch more than once or twice, and I don't have to tell you that

Right now I only have 7 Blu's, I just ordered 3 more from AMazon. I have one disc that is Dolby True, but it is 5.1 sound. I keep looking for Dolby True 7.1 so I can Hear what all the hype is about.
Today, I watched "3:10 to Yuma" again. For now, it is my reference disc. The label says it has 7.1 lossless PCM, whatever that is.
This is the first time I watched it since I got my Yamaha 863. Sounded pretty good. I had my big Klipsch F-3"s cranking enough to get my neighbor's attention!

Thank you for the kind words . I must admit though I've received a lot of help from reading home theater forums such as this one and on AVSForum.com so that is where the credit is due.

I'm here to learn from the knowledge that others are willing to share so thank you all in advance!
