The problem here is releasing these one disk at a time is going to cost a hell of a lot more than in a set. There should be a way to buy them separately or if you chose as a set. I had no problem buying the Looney Tunes sets. The Platinums cost maybe $25-30 for 3 disc blu-rays. At this rate I'm spending $15-18 on a single damn BD. Now of course I love classic cartoons and I'll buy all the Popeye Blu Rays but why should you get screwed if you're willing to buy more than 1 at a time? I hope they release every Popeye short they have, I hoped the same for the Looney Tunes but for some reason no one can buy a 3 disc set. And the Platinum collection Looney Tunes are beautiful!

They said that the big sets weren't selling enough to justify the costs. The solution to that is to lower the overall price to increase the base of potential customers, and streamline the product to make it cost less to produce. If they can't make enough money on it serving the cartoon fans because there aren't enough of them to support it, then they have to simplify. The other alternative is to just say they aren't profitable and not make them at all.

Physical media sales are dropping. Cartoon shorts has always been a niche market. The niche is shrinking.

There’s a good 100 or so 1080p HD shorts on there at this point that haven’t seen any other release in that resolution.

Volume 3 was already only 2 discs, and maybe my recall is incorrect but even on Volume 1 and 2 - weren't the 3rd discs only for "extras"?

I see no reason Warner Archive can't do some 2 disc volumes. Even when they announced Volume 3 was the last of the Platinum collections, I figured it wouldn't be long before Warner Archive got some more stuff out. I'm shocked they haven't. The Popeye set seems interesting to me though, not "I'm gonna pre-order it as a fake show of support" interesting, but I will certainly grab it the 1st time I see it as part of the 4 for 44 deal (hope it doesn't turn into a long wait like Superman).

This is what makes the lack of releases that much more inexcusable. Restoration costs money. But they have more restored shorts they could compile and put out as Archive releases. Multiple volumes worth.

Doesn't really make much sense, as I would think these would be far from the worst selling Archive releases. Some of the Archive stuff might have a cult demand I just don't understand, but there are certainly Warner Archive releases that must be super slow sellers, and I can't imagine that would be the case for another volume of Looney Tunes. By now there should be some "pent up" demand too.

The Wizard of Oz is far from the only project MPI is involved with. A few doors down, another colorist is working on 1952’s “Upswept Hare”, one of twelve Looney Tunes shorts currently undergoing restoration. MPI makes use of a 10K film scanner and work is underway to record and store 8K versions of the full studio archive. To date, they’re storing 15 petabytes of data. A single petabyte is equal to one million gigabytes!

Wow, "Upswept Hare" (if the Looney Tunes wiki is correct) was only ever available on VHS; hope this bodes well for more disc releases!

Also wanted to point out that although it isn't a Blu-ray (and most of the shorts are repeats), this is coming out in less than three months:
Looney Tunes Parodies Collection announcement and information

Three of the shorts included - Jack-Wabbit and the Beanstalk, Rabbitson Crusoe, and Hare-abian Nights - are new to DVD.

Looks like Warners are finally up to something, but we currently don't know if there's anything bigger and better in the works...

While I hope they don't DNR for film grain, I do hope they at least do some cel dust cleanup. It was pretty bad on some of the Platinum releases.

Hell, even if they don't release them, at this point it's good they're finally at least scanning them so that they don't deteriorate any further.

Since Jerry Beck teased on Stu's Show that Warner Bros. is planning an 80th anniversary for Bugs Bunny, I presume that this is going to be for such a release.

That said, we still have no word on whether the Warner Archive or Warner Home Video proper will handle it, though. After all, the Archive managed to get their hands on both Jonny Quest and the original 1962-63 run of The Jetsons while WHV released two Scooby-Doo shows (all of these were Hanna-Barbera properties, mind you), so who knows?

Sadly if it's for Bugs' 80th Anniversary I'd expect WHV to be in charge. WAC doesn't really release stuff based on anniversaries.

I have to think that the WAC doing Popeye first was at least partly because of his 90th. The three volumes and the Comic-Con panel tied into that and carried the official "90th Anniversary" branding.

Jerry Beck said on one's Stu's Show that Tom and Jerry was the only classic theatrical animated series the Archive doesn't have access to, so we will see.

If anything, their new archive program should result in more cartoons getting released, since they'll have up-to-date scans.

The 1940's Popeyes are raw scans from the program, with a minimum of cleanup. They look phenomenal and were profitable enough to get released.

In the "Fine Tooning" special feature on the Golden Collection they mentioned that they consider cleaning cel dust to be alteration, not restoration, since it was recorded that way. I'm not sure if they have changed their stance on that since 2005.

Has Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers ever been released on dvd uncut? I can't remember. Hopefully it will be here.

That's a really strange selection of shorts for this type of disc. How is Duck Dodgers not on there?

A lot of those 80s and 90s cartoons aren't exactly classics, though at this point when it comes to Looney Tunes I'll take what I can get.

It was released uncut on "The Essential Bugs Bunny" back in 2010.

If there is a new release coming with more cartoons, I hope it includes Southern Fried Rabbit.

That title is already included on the Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 4 set, and given that Warner is restoring 12 new cartoons (which presumably were either last seen on VHS or are completely new to home video period), it's unlikely going to make that release.
