Since a lot of what we discuss on this thread is directly related to our vision and materialistic things. Thoughts for the day (and season) to put things into perspective –

1. Don’t take your vision for granted. If you don’t already, make it a New Year’s resolution to get yearly ophthalmic exams even if you are having no vision problems that you can detect with normal daily living, as there can be ‘silent disease processes’ lurking in your eyes doing irreversible damage and you don’t have to be an ‘old person’ to have them, such as Pigmentary Glaucoma (not saying that Cecil is challenged with that malady though)

2. Giving, can feel more rewarding than receiving and there are a lot of good people out there…still.

3. Dogs rule.

Hah! I'll be lucky to even get to a game this season. Too busy working.

Dolby has gotten a lot of publicity this week, even from the Wall Street Journal….http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2013/12/...-transform-tv/

Of course, this is not unexpected since we’ve been talking about them here at least for 9 months (since last March), with pertinent perceptual papers cited, scroll down to middle of post - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...by#post7325076

as well as, some would say, excruciating detail regarding the results of past experiments down to the number of actual participants - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ts#post8498218

Go Dolby.

Commercial break for another TV manufacturer, just for equal time, so-to-speak.

Note to my better half….

Half the Christmas decorations are up. Work stoppage due to heavy rain. Should finish tomorrow. Bought you loads of poinsettias, will defer to your judgment as to placement when you get home later this evening.

Can’t remember who it was in a past question asking about film vs. D-Cinema, but here is a visual aid -

DCI means P3 (what the D-Cinema projector pops out, if you will)

That was me, thanks for the info. Is the P3 color space something that's going to be with us for a long time? Can it be updated? Film and the Sony F65 digital camera far exceed what we are seeing in the theater according to that graph.

Lovely graph there. I wonder where the Phantom 65 Gold stand in that graph. Or maybe even the RED Epic Dragon.

Back in the early part of the last decade, the SMPTE DC28 color ad hoc group (for Digital Cinema) had expected the projector manufacturers to push the P3 gamut but that has yet to happen. Perhaps something will change with the arrival of wide color laser projectors but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Which brings me to an excruciatingly boring, purely on-topic post…

DCP for The Wolf of Wall Street….and it’s a long one!
Image Format: 4096x1716 (Scope)
Audio Format: 5.1
File Size: 194 GB
Feature Run Time: 2:59:38 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*To L'armée and Goofy, this was a hybrid acquisition with the vast majority of the motion picture shot on film. Digital cameras included the Alexa (for green screen visual effects, scenes with unusual shutter speed and night scenes) and a prototype Canon C500 for capturing the aerial plates.

Yes, truly. As well as the motion picture American Hustle, for that matter.

Figuring with all the recent Dolby HDR publicity, there’d be a discount on the Sim HDR47E S 4K from last year - http://www.sim2.com/HDR/hdrdisplay/hdr47e_s_4k so I’d ask Santa when sleighing past Italy to pick one up for me.

My wife said “Good luck”.
