I have been to a trade show and I have seen - compressed 1080p - right next to a display showing - uncompressed 1080p - and next to it was a prototype display with the - proposed H.265 compressed 4k -and then next to it and - uncompressed 4k display. The clip was only like 15 seconds due to how many terabytes the uncompressed 4k video took up. the uncompressed video looked almost exactly the same as h2.65 compressed 4k video and the REAL UNCOMPRESSED 4k looked jaw dropping. SO either give us uncompressed 1080p video or forget 4k UNLESS you give us uncompressed 4k video. Last edited by stts651; 01-26-2013 at 09:28 PM. |

![]() Viewers don’t get “uncompressed” at their local Digital Cinema multiplexes, nor, for that matter in the medical world where life and death decisions are made based upon the imaging….and have to stand up in a court of law for things like wrongful death lawsuits. The best you could hope for in entertainment exhibition would be lossless compression…..the best you will get….is superb lossy compression - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ed#post5816245 |

For academic interest, it would be meaningful to provide a courtesy link describing that demo at the trade show….something like at the end of this post -

Gotta share a story in that regard. My wife tells me that one’s spirit (humans, dogs, etc.) stays on earth for 40 days before they go to heaven….visiting places and people on earth while *in transition*. Well, I’m creatively somewhat of an amateur photographer (and filmmaker, for that matter) and I’ve exhibited my still ‘work’ which captures truly significant personal moments ![]() So, get this. Forty days (to the day) after our beloved dog passed, one tracking light (out of 9 along the tracks) burnt out. That one tracking light illuminated the prime photo of our ‘little fella”. It really makes one wonder, spiritualism challenged or not, if that was a sign. Because before…and ever since then, no other tracking lights in this house have ever burnt out and I have about 25-30 of them in various rooms. As to your leadingly romantic-oriented question, I don’t need no Viagra, Levitra, or Cialis with my ‘island girl’ ![]() |

If some members have already pre-judged Westinghouse sets without having seen them, then, if things stay on schedule, later this year Sony and LG, for instance, will have 55” and 65” 4K TVs cheaper than that. And if you are inclined to the Toshiba brand, their 55” 4K set will be substantially cheaper than $20,000. |

Question from the RED peanut gallery “...This sounds great for all the indie movies which can be distribute directly through ODEMAX, but what about the major motion picture movies/studios? Are they supporting this? Will we see major motion movies through ODEMAX in 4k soon?” The reply from Jarred on 11/30/2012 - Quote:
Penton here ![]() ![]() Quote:
…heck, for perspective, regarding the later, last I heard there are still some IMB servers in up-and-running Digital Cinema projector systems at some commercial venues showing movies to the public right now...which have yet to pass CTP) but, all that said, please don’t tease me again with those types of announcement postings on the official media outlet site for RED. Prior to being a married man, I’d say you made me and others feel like the guy who got stood-up after a hot lady in red committed to a date…to at least have dinner with me. Flirting only works with fanboys. I want substance - ^ Shucks, Pentatonic has got me feeling all sensuous now towards the ladies, rather than geek-analytic. Anyway, everyone who hasn’t left Sundance by now is leaving for the airport today, so it’s essentially over. You guys have got four more days in January, i.e. “Channel Owners – January 2013” to show up for at least a good dinner conversation regarding the distribution platform… http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthr...=1#post1109565 Please no more false promises. ![]() Penton (BRAVE but skeptical) |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() That's awesome news on your upcoming vacation, sounds like a real soothing escapade. I know I will be back one day, such crazy beauty, the perfect climate and the friendliest people on earth, what else does one want ![]() ![]() I'm a member of the RED forum as I love to read all this pseudo brotherhood of the few (I mean no disrespect to any here who would be members, but there are some gems) lately I haven't received any info update email, nothing. You know you saying you'll be first, to, all of a sudden, behind Sony. Papers inventions are just that IMO |

“Well the flu has not only ravaged Sundance but managed to clobber the 4 ODEMAX presenters. We’re here but it’s ugly.”…..last tweet on Jan. 20 – https://twitter.com/ODEMAX ^ I say to ODEMAX, well somehow, either some people escaped the flu, or soldiered on and still made news at Sundance…by doing distribution deals, like so - • The Way, Way Back: $9.75 Million, Fox Searchlight • Don Jon’s Addiction: $4 Million, Relativity Media ($25 million P&A) • Austenland: $4 Million, Sony • Lovelace: $3 Million, RADiUS – TWC • Kill Your Darlings: $2 Million, Sony Pictures Classics • Fruitvale: $2.5 million, The Weinstein Company • S-VHS: > $1 Million, Magnolia Pictures • Ain’t Them Bodies Saints: $1 Million, IFC Films • We Are What We Are: > $1 Million, eOne Distribution — US and Memento Films — International • Concussion: > $1 Million, RADiUS-TWC • The Spectacular Now: > $1 Million, A24 • Before Midnight: Undisclosed, Sony Pictures Classics — North American and UK • jOBS: Undisclosed, Open Road • The Look of Love: Undisclosed, IFC Films • Newlyweeds: Undisclosed, Phase 4 Films — North America • Prince Avalanche: Undisclosed, Magnolia Pictures • The Rambler: Undisclosed, Anchor Bay Films — North America, the U.K. and Australia • Toy’s House: Undisclosed, CBS Films — North America • Two Mothers: Undisclosed, Exclusive Releasing • Blackfish: > $1 million, CNN Films and Magnolia Pictures • ***** Riot — A Punk Prayer: > $1 million, HBO Documentary Films • The Summit: > $1 million, AMC Networks’ Sundance Selects • Twenty Feet From Stardom: > $1 million, RADiUS-TWC • Dirty Wars: Undisclosed, AMC Networks’ Sundance Selects • History of the Eagles: Undisclosed, Showtime • Inequality for All: Undisclosed, RADiUS-TWC • The Machine Which Makes Everything Disappear: Undisclosed, Icarus Films — North American rights Pentatonic, there is so much crap which is declared, stated, etc. in the entertainment business (generally by those not trained in engineering, computer science or other scientific disciplines) that it is truly incredible, but fanboys of a particular individual or entity choose to marginalize these things...and worse, the rah-rah fanboys intentionally ignore or dismiss these occurrences altogether. ![]() And I don’t want to seem to be ‘picking on’ the RED/ODEMAX partnership. There’s been worse blatantly bad faith behavior from executives at other studios (I’m talking majors, not a ‘little’ one like RED studios), i.e. the notorious “consultation” statement…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...lt#post6782166 Or, from another, see last paragraph here, for context ![]() https://www.facebook.com/notes/peter...50222861171558 ^ Well, P.J. I’ll tell you what the reality “will be”. Despite the clearly original intent to distribute as WIDELY as possible because the filmmakers were proud of their work, after the mixed reviews from CinemaCon (prior to its worldwide release), the HFR 3D version was restricted…. Quote:
Anyway, so, Jarred (and Jon from ODEMAX), don’t get the impression I’m exclusively ‘picking on’ you guys. There’s plenty of crap to call out by ‘professional’ entertainment people all over Hollywood but, not to worry, the ‘fanboys’ will inevitably respond like so…. ![]() I know it's not unique, but the problem is, they only had on unique chance to do so. I sure hope Odemax becomes a reality for a niche market (at best) as it might be just what independent cinema needed, if they can get them aboard which is another story when revenue is little. But if they don't do anything real soon, their market will only be the fanboys (the ones that even when the ship is sinking and they got as*whipped in spending good money for a dead product and still sends well wishes sorta kind like the ED forums at the end ![]() |
