Cool, and this will be great for cable, satellite tv also. Obviously it will need new equipment but it does look good finally for real HD tv. I know right now my cable box can do mpeg4 (even if they only use mpeg2) but wouldn't mind skipping that step.

I have been to a trade show and I have seen - compressed 1080p - right next to a display showing - uncompressed 1080p - and next to it was a prototype display with the - proposed H.265 compressed 4k -and then next to it and - uncompressed 4k display. The clip was only like 15 seconds due to how many terabytes the uncompressed 4k video took up.

the uncompressed video looked almost exactly the same as h2.65 compressed 4k video and the REAL UNCOMPRESSED 4k looked jaw dropping.

SO either give us uncompressed 1080p video or forget 4k UNLESS you give us uncompressed 4k video.

That is something I'm also waiting for. Sold my PS3 for an Oppo a while back (bought in December 2006 fresh from the factory almost ) but who knows, there might be another one for me then.

Why so condescending to people ? Do you have a stiffy for 1080p?

Viewers don’t get “uncompressed” at their local Digital Cinema multiplexes, nor, for that matter in the medical world where life and death decisions are made based upon the imaging….and have to stand up in a court of law for things like wrongful death lawsuits. The best you could hope for in entertainment exhibition would be lossless compression…..the best you will get….is superb lossy compression -

Forget that, he's got a whopping 4 negative posts here up to now. As if the studios would give out there property in an uncompressed format. He even says the sheer size of the files are ridiculously large and expects them to deliver it

Hey bro. Given our mutual globetrotting background, it’s serendipitous you asked, because my better half just informed me this past weekend that she is planning a trip for us this winter to the Big Island and also Kauai…just to travel and try to get our minds off losing our beloved dog. It’s been difficult for us because he was like a son, rather than a ‘pet’.

Gotta share a story in that regard. My wife tells me that one’s spirit (humans, dogs, etc.) stays on earth for 40 days before they go to heaven….visiting places and people on earth while *in transition*. Well, I’m creatively somewhat of an amateur photographer (and filmmaker, for that matter) and I’ve exhibited my still ‘work’ which captures truly significant personal moments in our shared lives mounted along the walls of mainly our LA-area house. These ~ 24”x16” photo enlargements are well-lit with modular tracking lights which were ALL purchased and installed at the same exact time. In fact, the light fixtures contain halogen lamps which are claimed to last for thousands of hours beyond the time we’ve so far used them. For background, we turn on this lighting arcade every night with a slide rheostat (dimmer switch), if only for general lighting in our family room.

So, get this. Forty days (to the day) after our beloved dog passed, one tracking light (out of 9 along the tracks) burnt out. That one tracking light illuminated the prime photo of our ‘little fella”. It really makes one wonder, spiritualism challenged or not, if that was a sign. Because before…and ever since then, no other tracking lights in this house have ever burnt out and I have about 25-30 of them in various rooms.

As to your leadingly romantic-oriented question, I don’t need no Viagra, Levitra, or Cialis with my ‘island girl’ .

If some members have already pre-judged Westinghouse sets without having seen them, then, if things stay on schedule, later this year Sony and LG, for instance, will have 55” and 65” 4K TVs cheaper than that.

And if you are inclined to the Toshiba brand, their 55” 4K set will be substantially cheaper than $20,000.

Pentatonic, there is so much crap which is declared, stated, etc. in the entertainment business (generally by those not trained in engineering, computer science or other scientific disciplines) that it is truly incredible, but fanboys of a particular individual or entity choose to marginalize these things...and worse, the rah-rah fanboys intentionally ignore or dismiss these occurrences altogether.

And I don’t want to seem to be ‘picking on’ the RED/ODEMAX partnership. There’s been worse blatantly bad faith behavior from executives at other studios (I’m talking majors, not a ‘little’ one like RED studios), i.e. the notorious “consultation” statement….

I know it's not unique, but the problem is, they only had on unique chance to do so. I sure hope Odemax becomes a reality for a niche market (at best) as it might be just what independent cinema needed, if they can get them aboard which is another story when revenue is little.

But if they don't do anything real soon, their market will only be the fanboys (the ones that even when the ship is sinking and they got as*whipped in spending good money for a dead product and still sends well wishes sorta kind like the ED forums at the end )
