The “should be the end-all” you say?...well, not for my home video, nor for that of folks like Steedeal and Tob who also watch *The Beautiful Game* (Stee, I just finished Man City vs. Chelsea, fabulous skill on Man City's part!). For you see ramicio, even at < 20 degrees/sec (which isn’t that fast of an object motion for sports), the blur present at 120fps is even further reduced by going to 240fps….

If we’re talking “end-all” here then I want my soccer players looking very sharp , like in Fig.3, i.e. 240 fps….http://www.sbjtvd.org.br/2010/anais/..._3d_system.pdf

True, very true. Although anything beats the halo effect surrounding players in the old days of mpeg2

Yes, good game. Although I can't help but admire the ever-improving Gareth bale at the moment. Spurs versus the gunners should be some test Penton man. Good luck.

Will be watching tomorrow after my morning ride. I should add that the BBC is actually proposing 300 fps for future considerations.

Default F/U regarding 4K litigation news…

Going back several days in time....

First let me just express my personal sentiments on the major players involved so that people don’t get the impression that I have some sort of biased conflict of interest for the matter at hand.

I really admire Jim, heck, if only for the fact that he named his company (Oakley) after his dog places him in a special place in my heart . But, more objectively, he is one of the most innovative thinkers and do-ers (arguably thee most innovative), whom I know of and if Congress were populated by all Jim Jannards we would be a FAR better country for it.

But, that does not exactly make him an angel, for instance….http://www.boliven.com/legal_proceed...v-05841-LAP?q=

And if I correctly recall, after the Oakley vs Nike settlement was announced, Oakley shares fell and Nike shares rose….if that serves as an indication of who Wall Street believed that settlement was in favor of.

On the other hand, as we’ve seen, upper management at one Sony division can also be fast and free with the truth…https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...lt#post6782166

To answer your question, I don’t exactly know what specifically RED is accusing Sony of infringing upon as Jim’s comments on that thread are just too vague as to applicability. My feeling is that he is *stretching* just because I know the mindset of the engineers at Sony’s Atsugi Tech Center for I think they would sooner run around the parking lot naked in broad daylight rather than copy or infringe upon something which was a credible patent from RED. Patent infringement legal implications aside, it is a pride thing with them.
Now for some ‘Breaking News’ ….

“Sony looks forward to prevailing in court, thus vindicating the Sony engineers who developed Sony's quality digital cinema cameras.”

All I can say is (if indeed, it’s not self-evident to all), is that the *100 GB-plus downloads* is not a permanent solution.

So, any REDRAY fans who may be reading…stop chuckling to yourselves.

I think Formula One in 2160p240 would be very satisfying.

Yes, that would be sweet. Unfortunately, the video community has been slow to respond to even HD motion standardization, as they didn’t include 1080p60 in ATSC Table 3. Spatial resolution aside, firstly going forward towards better temporal characteristics, demands a concerted effort on the part of the industry to also move away from interlace in production.

P.S.
On the last page, I think you must have liked the past Sugar Man posts…

All I can say is that we have (for commercially viable data rates, that is) the non-proprietary basic building block to the 4K foundation, namely HEVC...http://www.hhi.fraunhofer.de/media/p...orld-2013.html

How “soon” depends on software or hardware implementation. More fundamentally, with things like a multi-core x86 CPU, 8GB of RAM and a hard drive - what can’t some devices do, when people put their minds to it?

SACD was removed so long ago though that I don't think many were expecting that to come back. While SACD releases remain steady from audiophile labels (Audio Fidelity, MOFI, etc) it's pretty clear the majors have no interest in either of the old formats, only Blu-ray stands a chance I think of seeing a push at some point and from what I understand most major label busy bodies have their heads in the clouds if you know what I mean.

The PS3 does have excellent CD playback though.

Rodriguez - Sugar Man (Live on KEXP) - YouTube
I missed that one, but thanks for re-posting it. As an aside, KEXP are just brilliant! They always upload high quality videos, leave them uploaded permanently and have incredible acts popping by always playing great live sets. They seem to have a great rapport with all the local musicians especially the "Seattle sound" guys like Shawn Smith, Chris Cornell, etc., that I grew up listening to.

Amazing Sound….even more amazing story . Spoiler Alert – If one has any intentions at all for either renting or purchasing the Blu-ray of Searching for Sugar Man, do not watch this video clip….

Indeed…and that still frame captured above from the YouTube clip of the set with the bright white spotlight from the ceiling and the dark backgrounds reminds me that I owe folks here a post or two on the next consumer display frontier…HDR.

So much to do…and so little time.
