Well, at least this time around there won't be a 4K format war. Just that alone makes me think 4K Blu-ray will happen, but IMO, a 4K disc format should not be considered an entirely new format -- but rather a further quality extension of the regular Blu-ray format (not a replacement).

I predict the best we will get is:

10bit color at 4:2:0
100 GB discs
80mbps data rate for video.
48fps (maybe 60fps)

Which I would be thrilled with.

Aye, that would do me nice too. I'm slightly more optimistic as to disc size, I think we'll get at least the capacity for 200gb, even if we don't see many 200gb discs for a year or two after launch.

It's also why I tend not to see it as a new format too. It's just increased the spec on the current format, so it's still a bluray disc, just with a bigger capacity.

I agree with you both, although sound wise, which you both forget to mention, looks a lot better, even current blu ray is getting ATMOS, I can't begin to think what 4K Blu-ray will get.

I wonder how DTS is going to do what ATMOS is.

Now THAT sounds like a format war...

Yep. I just wish they would hurry up and start. I wonder if the speaker positions will be incompatible with each other. Moot point if not.

They allready have 128gb(BDXL) so I don't see why that can't happen.
The norwegian broadcasting aint starting up with 4k testbroadcasting untill 2020. And who really has that internet connection for UHD netflix, I'm only getting 720p and thats with 11,3mbps.

So we should hope for announcements at ces, if not maybe the physical formats are done?
