I had been traveling alot the last few years. I know some resorts charge some ridiculous fees like resort fees and parking fees now. However, Disney never did this until just the end of March.
After speaking with one of the guest service associates, I was informed that Disney did an assessment to find roughly 80% of the surrounding hotels charges these excessive fees and feel it's part of "industry standard" and have decided to jump on board with this. Disney will most like get hit with some backlash, but I'm certain they will think the noise will die down after a while. What gets me is their property has been around for years and no additions are going to be added for them to just tack onto a vacation stay based on the resort tier level. For instance, Coronado Springs is a moderate tier and will now have $19 added to the guests' bill for each overnight stay. I guess the Disney greed continues to grow... I was tired of certain resorts in Orlando because of the additional fees that showed up on my bill at the end of my stay. I got excited to find JW Marriott last summer for $123 a night (the cheapest I ever saw it was $229) and when I got my bill at the conclusion of my 3 day stay - it was over $600! The resort fees was $35 per night for the use of the pool and self parking was $28 per night. Disney was just one flat rate and now they are doing the same as the others. At this rate, I'll just end up sleeping in my car if I want to stay overnight. Am I wrong to be outraged and disgusted by this? I'm thinking that with all the worth Disney Springs has done to revamp their downtown shopping arena, the free parking will now come to an end as well. Universal's City Walk charges $26 per day to park (I'm pretty sure that's the going rate) for you to enjoy the movie theatre, shopping and dining. I know it serves as the entrance to the parks, but they do charge even if you just want to catch a flick. Anyone want to care to add? Last edited by welcometonowhere; 06-11-2018 at 11:56 PM. |

Orlando is just copying Las Vegas. Vegas figured out they could add resort fees to their rates and say they're for services that have always been free (and which the person may not use), and Orlando followed suit, and then Vegas figured out they could charge for parking and Orlando followed suit. Like Vegas Orlando knows that people are still going to come despite the extra fees.
