Excellent! I recommend V and IV when going back to the classic era. VIII is a good next stop after XI.

For the first three, depending on your tolerance for NES games you might want to try one of the remakes. It makes the most difference with the original Dragon Quest - the NES version could be accurately called “Grinding: The Video Game” but the remakes transform it into the brisk, light RPG experience it really should be (the SNES and GBC versions are equally good and, as I understand it, the current port for the Switch plays the same way.) II is infamous for its late game difficulty spike. It’s less grindy than the original DQ until a certain point where you’ll need to do a ten level or so grind, but I don’t think it’s too imposing. III is one of the best and very impressive in scope for its time (also when the series began to master the episodic style it is known for.) I’ve only played the original PlayStation version of VII but I hear the DS version is just as long (this is where the series got the reputation for 100 hour plus lengths, the earlier ones aren’t even half as long.) VI is good but I think VII does a lot of the same things better.

Yeah, right now I'm strongly considering getting V for the phone as my next DQ since it seems highly regarded both game wise and mobile port wise and I could play it whenever. Might have to dust off the 3DS for 7 and 8 since those ports seem pretty highly rated.

Just finished Filament, it was free on Epic a few weeks ago. Need to get a few collectibles to 100% it. Some of the puzzles were too much for my brain so I did resort to a guide for around half of them.

Finished Final Fantasy XIII-2, or at least I completed the main story (I have…116 or 118 of the 160 fragments at this point.) The ending…okay. I guess it’s interesting to take the idea of destiny in this direction. So where will Lightning Returns take me? Are all of these characters becoming mythical figures in a story of inevitable annihilation and rebirth? Still, the tonal shifts in this are a bit much.

Took a look at the extra ending afterward. That’s it??? Come on, if you’re going to make people put loads of effort into unlocking such a thing it needs to be way, WAY better than that.

So that ending is a waste of time for sure but I’ll certainly play it some more. It improves a bit when you think of it more like a big Easter egg hunt dressed up like an RPG. Combat isn’t much up until the final bosses. You have to go way out of your way not to be overpowered in this game. I like to fight enemies in an RPG, so don’t ask me not to fight enemies, and if you don’t want me to fight enemies then completely rethink what you’re doing and make a very different kind of game (people have a problem with excessive grinding, not fighting enemies as you go.)

Some really nice places to visit, some good atmosphere, some good music (except for the ending song - God, stop it with this junk Square, it’s been awful since Eyes On Me!), and some fun mini games (I liked the clock puzzles and that stuff a lot more than any of the Calm Lands junk, or even ordinary story tasks, in FFX-2.) Not a bad time.

Oh, and I guess Noel is okay…but his character design is still godawful.

I'm kind of a weird case where I mostly stopped playing newer games in my teen years and have mostly since just remained interested in the classic consoles from say nes to dreamcast and arcade games of the 80s and 90s. Also played a lot of game boy and game gear back in the day.

Way too many to list, but I'm still mostly hopping through my old mainstays. FF14, Dead By Daylight, Disney Dreamlight Valley, etc.

After going through the Batman: Return to Arkham release I decided to start up the one of two games my gf got me for Christmas: The Callisto Protocol. I like it so far. Not sure why everyone is complaining so much about it.

(She also got me The Quarry which is next up.)

Since the games were on Sale at the end of last year, I started playing Resident Evil 7 recently to gear up for Village. Been getting through it slowly but unfortunately I feel more tempted to just stop and read up on what happens in it cause my most recent play session had been plagued with crashes. It'll just tell me It can't save the game on any save point at random and will eventually Crash, I fear it'll be like that for the rest of the game. And it was my first time playing it too. I have no clue what caused the problem.

I did get the Remakes too, but those were after I had bought Village and started RE7.

Tried to start Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Nope, I’m not putting up with this.

Do not put me on the clock. Don’t. I’m already in a heightened state of anxiety, I don’t need to be harried by a game to play it on a timer, to get things done lest I waste in game time and thus waste my actual time because I can’t properly finish it if I don’t.

Don’t give me mixed messages about what I should be doing. I thought I was on the introductory portion of this game - get the numbers on the wall, get access to the secret society before they kill someone else, then follow Noel and fight him. Yeah, Noel has over 300,000 HP and I’m obviously not supposed to be doing this yet, even though the game was urgently prodding me on this line. What the hell? So I just wasted game time doing stuff I can’t actually do yet and I wasted my time because I need to go back to the start of this whole thing and reconsider what I’m doing. I spent two and a half hours doing this.

The game is hurrying you and yet other things about it that you are supposed to do are so sluggish and dull. A Garchimera fight might go fast but a lot of these other enemies are taking much too long for one on one regular enemy battles. These side quests and NPCs - ugh (the Kitase-produced Final Fantasy games have the worst ordinary NPCs.) Maybe they decided to rush you so you won’t be able to look at the ugly game world so much?

I could accept these conditions if I didn’t have to deal with this time limit crap. I’m not doing this. Screw it. It’s ironic that this is from the same series that has a game in which a meteor is going to crash into the planet imminently yet you’re spending what would be years of time in real life breeding Chocobos. That kind of nonsense is far preferable to this kind of nonsense.

Finished Callisto Protocol and I enjoyed it enough to Platinum it. It's got some issues for sure but nothing as bad as people say. Sure I was lucky to play the PS5 version which has the least amount of issues. But people are acting like it's the worst game ever. I liked that it was linear and shorter but looked terrific and tried to have a simple realized world.

Now I'm on Ghostwire Tokyo which I'm also digging.

i've got back into final fantasy xiv. have a long history with this game - played and finished AAR on pc back in 2014/2015, but restarted on ps5 a few years ago. now i'm up to the final expansion, endwalker. it's the only mmorpg i ever got into - i guess mostly because it's a single player rpg up until the required dungeons and trials. also as a big fan of final fantasy, it's like a big love letter to the series.

i thoroughly finished tactics ogre reborn on switch a few weeks ago. this was my 3rd playthrough of the game since i originally played the psp version back in 2007. it gets better each time and each different version of the game just expands on how great it truly is. yasumi matsuno is the best game director.

looking forward to: final fantasy xvi and grimgrimoire once more

Beat Ghostwire Tokyo. Really fun game. A Far Cry like game but with Yokai and set in Japan.

Now I'm trying my luck at Sifu. So far so good. The game not me.

I am currently replaying Days Gone for the 7th time and am in the middle of Bus Simulator 21. When I am done with the latter, I will move onto either Untitled Goose Game (I got it brand-new on Amazon for cheap!) or do a trophy hunt on Stray.

Wrapped up God of War (first play-through finally), and jumped straight into God of War Ragnarok. Both on PS5.
