Some of them are 2K upscales. Some are low budget affair. Some are shot with variety of cameras / lenses with some intended look-and-feel which is not going to bode well with those expecting razor sharp 4Krisp picture.

However, the biggest differences come in the form of the remastering quality itself and application of HDR to make the picture look standout and this can vary from movie to movie.

Paramount have been notorious with encoding / compression and have botched HDR10 layer on some of the discs which is when DV FEL comes to the rescue.

Last but not least, your viewing preferences and equipment also matters.

I don't have this particular title. A lot depends on the source material, but I found that many of their upgrades have far better compression than the HD versions, particularly on older more grainy movies. I watched Primal Fear* the other day and thought it looked really good. I watch on a projector, so HDR doesn't mean much to me (the projector accepts it, but doesn't have the light power to adequately display it).

* Great movie, BTW. Ed Norton gives a fantastic performance, and Richard Gere is at his peak.

Wrote Studiocanal in regards to them not having fixed the Red Sonja 4K issue in the UK store, but got a "depressing" answer this time, so I encourage everybody who purchased the movie to contact Studiocanal to let them know that the issue is still there, here is the email:

Thanks for your email and sorry to hear that it still hasn’t reverted to the 4K version.
As you can see in the attached screenshot, it should be showing up in 4K so it would be best for you to contact iTunes for them to resolve the issue.

Seems like something that should’ve happened already. Not sure what the holdup is, aside from the complicated negotiations Apple must have to do with the studios. They can just start with the obvious ones first, like Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad. Hopefully it happens someday (soon).

Seems a likely candidate. Some studios are revolting against the spirit of that agreement by relisting titles to prevent upgrades. I'm surprised it took this long, I predicted (and was thankfully wrong) that the studios would do this immediately after they signed the deal.

I’m sure this is what Apple would want them to do. I know it’s what I want the studios to do, considering they’ve been charging the same amount for an HD version on iTunes as a UHD version on VUDU. Seems only fair to upgrade things like Game of Thrones.

While to answer is unfortunate, at least you got an answer. For a year, I've been trying to get Studiocanal to add English subtitles to all their movies. No one has even replied to my messages about this basic request that helps so many people enjoy their movies even more -- or at all. Here are some of the Studiocanal titles that don't have subtitles in the UK store, and this is just a sampling:

- They Live
- The Fog
- Escape from New York
- Basic Instinct
- Deer Hunter
- Don't Look Now
- Kind Hearts and Coronets
- The Ladykillers
- Masque of the Red Death
- Prince of Darkness

Is it so hard to make English subs a requirement?
