1980s and live through the slasher and action movie boom, renting VHS in rental shops and so on.

The 1920s - 30s and see the birth of "talkies" and all those massive leaps in cinematic technologies.

Then maybe somewhere in the middle where a man can dress in suit and not feel like he's stood out like a sore thumb.

Then I'd maybe go back and see if I can find the answers to life's big questions, like if Jesus was real and so on.

The 80s sucked big time, if you're too young to remember you haven't missed much.

I would go to Hill Valley in 1955. Seriously if I had the opportunity I would probably pass, I like the present day, unless I could go back and change a few of my bad decisions.

I'd go back and witness and try to prevent historical crimes where it's uncertain who may or may not have committed the crime.

Jack the Ripper, Zodiac, West Memphis Three just to name a few.

The Silurian period. It was the earliest time that the air was more or less breathable, but no land life had yet evolved. I'd love to just take in the quiet nothingness of it all. As long as I can come back of course!

Edit: I just realized how old this thread is. I have time traveled to 2016!

Why do you say that? Just curious. I especially liked it up until 1983, which was more of an extension of the 70s.

I fear traveling back in time and not being able to come back lol. I couldn't live being stuck in the 70's and having only 3 networks to choose from. And, worse, watching them on those tiny TVs with rounded corners.

If returning to my starting point is guaranteed, I'd travel to the early 80's. I'd like a front row seat to when I was 8 or 9 so I could see what I looked like before life happened

I'd also like to visit the distant future but what if the spot where I land is under water or in a mountain? I wonder what the year 12,305 looks like.

The 60’s would be cool with the whole hippy love scene but I’d love to see the future.

i'd also like to go back to a certain day in 1987 and tell myself NOT to do what i did.

it was nothing illegal, but i still think about that day a LOT.
