Yes, one about like that (maybe a bit less pronounced than yours and a bit shorter but still fairly long), and one that was a lot shorter and less pronounced. Otherwise everything looks really nice. Though to be honest, it's too bad I didn't get a set with more slipcover flaws, because it would not really bother me too much.

I did have a scratch on Crouching Tiger that did actually concern me a bit, but the movie played no problem. It's light enough that maybe it just wasn't going to be an issue. From outer edge to about 1 inch in. I haven't watched all the (extensive) extras yet, so not sure if that content is nearer the outer rings or not.

I actually have more playback problems from my Sony 4K players than disc scratches. My Evil Dead 2013 4K disc has circular scratches to hell, but it only froze once because my Sony players do that sometimes. Otherwise it played fine when I restarted my player. I don't think I have had a scratched disc that caused actual playback issues.

Was able to do five discs successfully so far. Call Me failed. Wiped it, failed again. Can see a light scratch near the edge. Will try one more time before I do an RMA. Amazon sends out the replacement first, right?

You got to contact them via chat so they make you a replacement. When I did the normal return and replacement button, it only told me to return and get a refund.

I had scratches and smudges on my Fright Night discs too so clearly they're coming from the factory in Mexico that does all the North American duplications. Hopefully they get that sorted out because this is getting ridiculous.

Just watch the 4K for The Celluloid Closet

I'd seen this when it first hit VHS as a rental, and then years later.
I always felt it was dated in some of the opinions even when it was released.
It's important, but with reservations.

As for it going straight to 4K UHD and not a BLU at all is an interesting choice.

The image itself is NOT 4K material.
Film clips and interview segments just are not 4K and wouldn't be since the film clips were from dated clips etc...
It's nice to have it on a new format.... but this should have been a blu-ray release, the box set could have used that space for a film with actual 4K elements.

Would have been nice to get 'Welcome to the Dollhouse', 'Amour', 'Cache', 'A Seperation' and a slew of others but hopefully we get a volume two.

My set arrived today. Sent by WOWHD from the US to Australia and is in perfect condition, even the slip covers.

Managed to get a copy of Run Lola Run.

Same seller who I acquired a copy of As Good as It Gets from, funnily enough.

If Sony eventually matches this price with Columbia Classics v2/3 sales at $12.08 per film, then hopefully this could go down to ~$130 as well. I'd be happy with ~150 too, just waiting for some kind of big discount before it's sold out and OOP.

Speaking of, is there any info on how many sets were made? I was never able to find an answer like they provided for the CC sets

Disappointed in the quality of the packaging of this set considering the cost TBH. Especially compared to the Columbia sets.

Uh, did you not see any of the interview footage? Not sure why you’re imposing it doesn’t have 4K elements when it was scanned from a negative at that resolution and looks insanely clear. Also not sure why you would single out this film and not the film that already had been released as wasted space on the set. This movie is the main reason I wanted this set (along with Still Alice). This movie is way more important to SPC as a distributor then most of the rest of the set also.

I singled it out on the basis on image quality… and true Crouching Tiger was already on 4K but I think it got a Dolby Vision grade as opposed to HDR (i think)

While Celluloid Closet is a 4K scan, the underlying elements used such as low quality film clips, and interview segments that look more shot on video then film. Curious if those were shot on actual film or a high quality video format OR were they shot on film and edited to a video format. They don’t look very film like - which is why my main point was, I don’t think the original materials screamed 4K. Some had more or a video-like quality.

It just seems that a really nice Blu-Ray would have been adequate, so as far as 4K Exclusive releases go this one is kind of crazy that no BLU exists. I’d imagine some will seek out single copies in eBay just to have it.

As far as the content itself, I agree it is important but I also don’t fully agree with some of the points within the doc, like I said before I found it dated even when it came out.

Some points I didn’t like were Cruising which I love, and Freebie and the Bean ending comments - the cops were over the top even before that final killing

Also I Love Basic Instinct & Silence of the Lambs… and I know they wanted to praise Philadelphia but that film has its own issues that come across like a horror film more than anything… which proves even with Philadelphia- Hollywood still couldn’t go full 100%

I guess I’m more in the Harvey Fierstein club of “…my view has always been visibility at any cost. I'd rather have negative than nothing.”

Side note - interesting if true trivia on IMDB

Actor Michael Ontkean not only declined to be interviewed for the documentary but also attempted to prevent clips from his film Making Love (1982) from being shown in it. He was unsuccessful.
Like WTF Ontkean!

I’m watching Call Me By Your Name and the transfer is really sumptuous. It does have some black crush in particular scenes, but looks like that’s a stylistic choice from the director. A lot of the movie has a dim look to it. It’s also that way when I saw it in theaters.

Amazon agent doesn't wanna do a replacement. They want to do refund on return. Guess I'm emailing Sony AGAIN, for Call Me By Your Name. I know they are tired of me.

Edit: I think he's a robot, actually. Edit: No, just robotic/doesn't speak English well.

I think it depends on which agent you get cause the one I got did the replacement for me no problem via chat.

Told me the system would not allow them. I'll contact them again if Sony refuses. Sony said last time that they would send my Annie slipcover and It Happened One Night 4K disc out as a one-time exception, but I don't know if they only said that because I ordered from Deep Discount, whom they called an "unauthorized" seller.

I just knew this was going to be the case, but having it confirmed makes it all the more frustrating that this was selected for inclusion in the box over something like Welcome to the Dollhouse, which is a cornerstone of Sony Picture Classics. The Celluloid Closet is a fantastic documentary, but yeah, releasing it on 4K UHD is the most bizarre choice I’ve heard all year.
