I'm sure they'll do a future standard re-release that's Blu-Ray only.

Also yes I know about the Blu-Ray only steelbook, but don't like it (and it's more expensive).
Any particular reason you don't like having bluray/dvd combos? I know we all have our quirks, but this is the first time I've heard someone say this so I'm interested.
The only reason I have for not keeping bluray/dvd combos is that they often sell for a lot more than bluray-only so I end up selling them and buying the cheaper bluray-only to keep.
With DVD slowly dying on the retail side, and many anime series only being released on DVD as part of an initial bluray/dvd combo, you could probably sell just the DVD copy and get back most or all of the money you spent.

I actually prefer the combo packs. That way if/when the blu-ray decides to die, stutter or skip I'll have the DVD copy to watch.

Shelf space. They tend to be larger than the Blu-Ray only releases.

If the BD is an upscale I usually prefer the combo pack since the DVDs are a more accurate representation of the source material. However do note that in some cases Funi appears to have just downscaled the upscale from the BDs back down to SD for the DVDs. Shakugan no Shana Season 1 is a good example. No matter which format you use its the same filtered garbage unfortunately. At least for Season 1 you can track down the Geneon singles.

Also not sure if it has been listed yet, but the Dragonaut DVDs from Funimation are OOP. Great show if you like in your face fan service. Same character design artist as the Witchblade anime.

Having the DVD is completely unnecessary in my opinion. If I sold the DVD copy then I'd have to buy replacement cases because having an empty holder would drive me nuts.

Still pissed that they did that on Shakugan no Shana S2 as well. Instead of using the JP DVD masters for the DVDs, they downscaled the JP Blu-ray upscale that was so bad, fansubbers didn't even want to do anything with it. I'm left wondering how I'm going to be able to rewatch S2 on disc without wanting to gouge my eyes out. DVDs through my original Xbox or PS2 instead of on my PS3 (which will upscale them)?

OCD is a butch.

You could also transfer the 2 blurays into a case for 2 discs, and then you'd have a spare 4-disc holder

My Bride is a Mermaid Complete Series DVD SAVE Edition is now listed as “No Longer Available” through TRSI. The series is still available to purchase via Amazon (for now).

If only they would release that on Blu-ray, one has existed in Japan since 2010.

Are they implying all Funimation releases may go OOP before the year ends?

No I think WTK is referring to all the sales that are taking place between now and the end of the year. Black Friday, Cyber Monday, RS Holiday sale, etc. A lot of these titles are going to be on sale or already are and now is a good time to get them.

I noticed that last night and snagged a copy from Amazon. Got busy and forgot to post here.

My contribution for today: I have a hunch that Lodoss War is one of those titles that is quietly going OOP. Amazon is out of stock and doesn't seem to be getting more. It's also rare like Lain in the sense that it's a classics/essentials but includes a dvd (although with different content than the bluray). It would make sense that they'd want to stop making a bluray/dvd combo, and it may not be in their plans to re-release it sans DVD any time soon.

Rightstuf has Lodoss war cheap as a mega deal today. Get it while you can.

Are they doing these titles as mega deals on purpose to clear out stock before they go OOP? I think this has happened with one or two other titles in the last week.

Yes, I believe they are trying to clear out their inventory. Obviously they want to sell everything they have for sale, but my spider senses are telling me this is a quiet clearance

Lodoss War is a bit more complicated, as it’s not really a BD+DVD combo pack (outside of the original 8-disc box set they did). The BD is the original OVA series, and the DVDs are the sequel TV series.

Really hope Discotek gets the series down the line. Funi's treatment of Shana was deplorable. If you're going to rewatch recommend setting your TV's sharpness setting to the minimum. Doesn't really fix the problem but in my opinion makes it a little more watchable by obscuring the over-processed upscaling. I also do this for some of my German upscale BDs. The fuzzy stair stepping on the German Last Exile BDs is horrible but is almost unnoticeable with the sharpness on minimum setting.

Glad I made a point of picking up all of the SAVE titles the last year or two.

So I'm better off not waiting for the final day of the sale? If I wish to buy the Classics/Essentials releases before they go OOP.

And finally, I was talking to an insider at Crunchymation's master distributor this week. The final day for retailers to pre-order their supply of the upcoming Dragon Ball Super Complete Series Limited Edition Steelbook BLURAY is August 9th ahead of the Sept 20th release date, but orders to date have been strong and the sets may end up getting oversold and thus allocated, which means that retailers may not get the full amount that they ordered. We'll be cutting off pre-orders at 70% of our initial order, but if you are interested in the set, best to pre-order it early (ideally before August 9th) as we will be filling customer pre-orders first come, first served. We want to make sure that everyone who orders a set from RACS gets one!
https://fandompost.vbulletin.net/for...e25#post822092
Heads up, the Dragon Ball Super LE SteelBook is only available through third party vendors via Amazon.
