Canada Movies Anywhere in Canada (help/info)

I figured I'd start this thread for Canadians hoping to access Movies Anywhere, which is unsupported in Canada.

So far I've been able to create a MA account, and have it linked to VUDU and iTunes (US account), except my iTunes link is bad. It asked me to authorize MA, which I did, but when I go into my iTunes account I don't see any mention of Movies Anywhere being linked up. I also can't unlink my MA and iTunes account, because that's done in the iTunes account area.

More info from Apple on linking accounts:
https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT202915

My guess is that iTunes knows I'm in Canada (even though I've tried using Windscribe to get around that), so it's not showing the MA linking info.

Has anyone managed to get further linking stuff in Canada?

I haven't linked my itunes yet as it's currently set to Canada and I have an open season pass so I can't switch countries till that is done I believe.
I have linked my amazon and google as well as vudu, a few google movies have ported over but I have yet to link my Disney Movies Anywhere as it won't let me log in even when i'm behind a VPN browser.

I've had issues logging in to Vudu lately so this is coming at a perfect time as long as I can get it all worked out.

I'd suggest creating a US iTunes account (so you have two), instead of messing with your Canadian iTunes account.

Ya I should have done that from the beginning but I have a good number of movies on the US side already, I'd hate to just let them go.

Ohh, so you're jumping between regions, unlocking different content on different stores? I had no idea that was possible.

I just checked and all (most? I'm not going to count them all) my VUDU titles have now appeared in MA. Still nothing going on with my iTunes, though.

Just tried to see if it would work, but linking a Canadian iTunes account doesn't work (which is what I expected would happen).

I have signed up (used Tunnel Bear), linked my US iTunes and Vudu accounts with no issue. Now I have to decide if I ditch my main CA iTunes library and begin building upon my smaller US iTunes / Vudu library or what...

I'm right there with you... I have a 4K TV (just a cheapy, no HDR) so have been wanting to build my 4K digital collection and assumed that movies ported from UV would be 4K in iTunes with a free upgrade but apparently not. It says 4K but just 1080p. So I may just return my 4K Apple TV until they figure this stuff out and if not I'll probably just eventually go 4K blu-ray as iTunes codes will now be going away I assume because of MA so no new movies will be able to redeem in 4K unless you buy a 4K code which are $10 USD usually minimum which is pricey for a code.

Edit: Also I too connected my iTunes US, Vudu AND Google Play accounts no problem using PIA VPN. Nothing has imported into Google Play but exports have worked fine. My SD Dark Knight from Google Play is now HD in iTunes which is nice. Would love to hear what all of you code buyers are planning on doing.

Edit 2: Also anyone with a 4K Apple TV able to TRULY stream in 4K from Canada using an American iTunes account? Max I am getting is a bit above 1080p. It seems impossible to stream 4K unfortunately. No idea why. Tried an American VPN.

I don't have a 4K TV yet so I can't help you there.

For those with split libraries between CA iTunes and US iTunes/Vudu... how are you going to redeem or purchase future titles?

I’m going to hold off creating an account with the hope they Canada gets added. But can’t you just switch between US and Canadian iTunes accounts on the AppleTV in seconds? I only have a few UV that I don’t have in iTunes but I would love to get the Hobbit Trilogy without having to buy it again.

Yes it’s really easy to switch between the two. I’m hoping we’ll get MA here soon but for now I’ve setup my iTunes, Vudu/UV and google Play together and it works great.

Don't use the VPN when watching stuff on iTunes, as it's not geoblocked. VUDU and MA would need the VPN in place, but not iTunes.

From my experience so far, I don't need to turn on the VPN to watch anything on MA.

I did turn it on to register my account, though.

So if I create a MA account and link my VuDu and US iTunes account my movies still merge into my US iTunes account. If MA expands to Canada, haha, will I be able to relink my Vudu or Flixster (since we technically don’t have VuDu) account with my Canadian iTunes account under a new MA account? I would prefer to have them all in my iTunes Canadian account at some point.

Yeah, I had it on to register mine as well and I guess I just assumed it'd be needed to watch something on the service. I haven't actually tried it though, because the MA interface on my devices (computer/AppleTV) is so poor.

i haven't got an iTunes account, but I've linked my US, VUDU, DMA and Amazon accounts to my US MA account.

then added my UK Google play account and this is working, it's pushed most of the movies over apart from the 4 DMA titles i had, which is odd.

Yes, if you link your MA account to VUDU and iTunes you'll end up with all your movies in iTunes. You won't be able to create a second MA account and link the same VUDU account to it. Flixster being added (assuming that this comes to Canada) would be an interesting development, as it may be a way to bridge the Canada/US border in terms of the digital side.

Of course MA would have to expand to Canada, and then a lot of the Canadian studios would have to be on board as well. I can't imagine how they'd handle the English/French versions of some movies.

VUDU and Flixster are two separate things, but both fall under UV. If MA came to Canada, it should have Flixster listed, but wouldn't have VUDU, since a Canadian shouldn't have a VUDU account (according to the rules). However, if someone did have VUDU, and also had Flixster, then there would conceivably be a way to link the two sides to share movies between them all.

This is how it'd look:

Well, with movies no longer going between VUDU and UV, the graphic above is out of date. No way to move your stuff across borders even if Movies Anywhere came to Canada.

Not sure what you mean. I'm in Canada, redeemed Baby Driver and Spiderman Homecoming to Sony Pictures (Sony is the only region-locked UV codes) and they ported to Vudu, then to Movies Anywhere and my US iTunes account.
