Has there been any information about if and when this may come to Canada?

I get a generic reply for customer service saying not at this time when I last asked. Idk if because of dumb regional distribution laws there is something blocking this service from coming over.

Yeah, I got the same thing. They did mention to continue using their supported services in the meantime. Hopefully that means it is coming, but they can't announce it yet. Or I'm just being hopeful.

We are not sure if or when we'll be expanding quite yet but you can also redeem the code on our current retailers iTunes, VUDU, Amazon or Google Play if you hope to add that movie to Movies Anywhere if we expand to your region in the future.

Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns!

I'll just add my current experience for reference.

Two years ago I was in the US and got the DMA app on my phone, the account was linked with my DMR account. When I got back to Canada, the app would open but I couldn't access anything.

Last summer Cinemanow in Canada started having major issues, then it shut down entirely. Flixster was my backup for my non-itunes collection, and suddenly 75 of my 300+ collection was "unavailable". I contacted them and was told that some of them were no longer part of the Flixster library. And some made no sense, like Mission Impossible 1-4 were unavailable, but MI5 was, however Transformers 1-3 were available, but 4 was not! And it wasn't just Paramount, I redeemed a fairly new code for Fifth Element and it was not available, and a lot of the disc to digital titles I had purchased through Cinemanow were unavailable (including some I hadn't even had a chance to watch!) but some still were, so it wasn't just D2D titles. I even started buying some movies in iTunes that I had lost from UV so my collection wouldn't have gaps. Then I read about MA...

Last fall I was back in the States and MA had just launched. Got the app, linked up my US iTunes account, VUDU, and Google play. And it all worked! The MA app player was so much better than the Canadian Cinemanow and Flixster apps. Besides the interface, they would crash all the time even with having downloaded them for offline playback. And tickets did nothing, they redid the Flixster Video app and actually made it worse! So needless to say I was extremely excited to have some decent players. I got the VUDU app and everything in my UV collection was available, including all the Paramount titles which unfortunately don't transfer to MA. I downloaded Planes Trains and Automobiles, and even when I got back to Canada I was still able to watch it! Although I wasn't able to log back in on the phone, Canadian codes I redeemed through Flixster were still transferring into my MA account, and the best part: I could still access MA!

Another benefit was that everything that transferred to my Google play account was available through youtube, but I still have streaming playback issues at home, which isn't a big deal since Blu-Ray is still my priority when I'm at home. And I logged into my US iTunes account and started downloading all my transferred titles onto an old laptop, then transferred over to my main PC. Again, so far no problems!

The only issue I'm running into now though is any new UV titles I've redeemed haven't gone from UV to MA. I redeemed Baby Driver in the middle of December, and that went through to everything. But a week later I redeemed the Underworld collection, and it didn't! I've since redeemed other studio titles, like The Grinch and Blade Runner 2049, and logging into VUDU using a VPN on my phone I verified that they are on there (all except the first Underworld movie...weird). But none of them are showing up in MA. I tried disconnecting and relinking accounts, and it shows they are linked, but the newer titles aren't transferring.

So I tried a little experiment: I redeemed a code for Inside Out (from a Bilingual release!) in Google play, and guess what, 30 seconds later it showed up in MA! Canadian specific codes will not redeem directly into MA, but I haven't tried some of the Universal ones. I'm not about to contact support due to the fact that some of this probably isn't supposed to be available for us as they planned, so for now I'm just trying some other tricks and waiting and seeing what happens next.

One last thing for my verbose post: When my Disney movies showed up in MA, pretty much all my disc-based redemptions were on there, as well as some of the code-only titles, like Mary Poppins and Lone Ranger. However, nothing after that point transferred, and even some disc-based titles I redeemed after that time frame (like Cars and Maters Tall Toons) don't show up. I'm slowly verifying that every code I've used to redeem digital movies has also been added to my DMR account, but there are a lot that never transferred to MA. My daughter loves it, because she can watch a bunch of Disney movies without having to download them all with iTunes, but a lot of the newer titles aren't on there unless I use up another code and redeem through Google (She was extremely happy that Inside Out is now on there, and with MA she can watch Lava on the extras!)

Anyway, I hope some of this can be helpful. And hopefully in the future we do get some option for MA up here. I'm content with what I have, but it would be nice to have more!

Hey guys, so I have finally decided to start building my collection thanks to your tips on this board. Even decided to create an account to thank you all as sometimes (not often) it is tough to live in Canada :P

@Jakdonark yesterday I linked a Canadian Spider-Man Homecoming code to a Sony Account, which then linked it to my UV account which then linked to MA almost instantly. I don't know what's wrong with Baby Driver but I was also planning on getting more UV codes such as Deadpool and Logan, but if they won't transfer to MA then I am honestly not interested as it's the only app we can use to watch them up here in Canada.

Just to update, I unlinked then reconnected my vudu account again, and this time it properly updated! I’ve since added more titles and have had no issues.

Just some info to my fellow Canadian friends: I spoke on the phone with MA and I was told that they are indeed trying to expand into Canada. Their head office is in Vancouver and they said they already know the market and its laws and that it is known that the higher ups are trying to bring MA officially to Canada.

Good news

Nope. But I was just in US and created my account, everything linked into my US iTunes account and normal google play account. So I’m sure the Canadian one will be right around the corner and I’ll have to unlink everything. Need to test it now with UV and google play codes.

I'd be surprised if it came to Canada to be honest. DMA never did. I'm all-in on building my MA collection through US iTunes now (plus redeeming Paramount and Lionsgate codes to US iTunes).
I guess if it did, it would be with Flixster (yuck), iTunes, and Google Play? I wonder if I could finally merge my Canadian and US iTunes accounts that way.

I'm new to Movies Anywhere (and digital codes in general). I just recently created an account, along with a Vudu US account and now an iTunes US account.
Movies anywhere just added a new free movie to my library last night, so I'm going to wait 24 hours to see if it shows up in vudu and itunes.

I have 2 questions on things I cannot figure out yet:

1.) Has anyone been able to successfully use the disc to digital program with vudu? I setup a US address on my vudu account to match the same city as my PIA vpn address (US East- Piscataway, NJ), then I used paypal as a payment method. When I try scanning a dvd I get a billing account error (cant remember the exact error at the moment). Should I try turning off my cellular data? is that what it is using? if not has anyone gotten this to work for them? Has anyone used the prepaid vudu/walmart gift card method?

2.) which US digital codes do not work with this sync method: movies anywhere/vudu/itunes? Or if easier, which codes do work?

You won't be able to use the phone based barcode scanning D2D, or what we call MD2D. It uses your phone's GPS location. You could download the disc scanning program to your computer though.

oh wow didnt think about that option, before I read the steps I was assuming you would need to barcode scan them, but it wants you to insert the disc, which is great! So you have had success using this method? anything special I need to do with the vudu payment info?

So I created my movie anywhere account while in the US, and my movies from
vuDu, google play and US iTunes merged. Back in Canada I can see the movies in google play and US iTunes account. So I tried a Annabelle UV code and redeemed in Flixster and it never showed up? Shouldn’t Flixster update my UV account which in turn updates my VUDU account and then updates MoVies Anywhere?

Will Canadian Fox codes redeemed in google play update ?

Im still new to this, so I will try to answer to the best of my limited knowledge.

Was the Annabelle UV code a US code? and just so you know, i dont think Flixster is an account you can link with Movies Anywhere. I would probably recommend redeeming your code first via Movies anywhere and then it will propagate from there to the other linked accounts.

For the Canadian Fox codes, thats a definite no. Mine didnt, and again this works with US codes only.
hope this helps.

Thanks but we don’t have Movies Anywhere in Canada and I don’t have a VPN. I was hoping that Flixster would transfer rights to Myuv.com, then that would transfer to VUDU and then finally to Movies Anywhere which would THEN populate either google play or my US iTunes account. What a cluster ****.

Unfortunately not and it is, trying to get the hang of it myself, but I do have a VPN.

Question for everyone, from what Ive read through googling, if you put in a US code for lets say Justice League in Movies Anywhere and it syncs to iTunes, you do not get the free 4k version upgrade right? all signs point to no.
Unless would that same code work if redeemed in itunes? would that work?

Newer canadian fox titles (Google play) will not port to moviesanywhere. Example : deadpool 2 bluray canadian = only gp and don't port to moviesanywhere.

For Annabelle UV, you must create a vudu account with a free vpn(hola etc...) after you will link myuv with vudu.com. Annabelle creation will port to moviesanywhere, Google play iTunes usa etc...

hopes that help!
