Seeking out new life from him when I thought that life was over.

During these past years, it has been humbling to hear stories about how The Next Generation brought people comfort, saw them through difficult periods in their lives or how the example of Jean-Luc inspired so many to follow in his footsteps, pursuing science, exploration and leadership. I feel I’m ready to return to him for the same reason – to research and experience what comforting and reforming light he might shine on these often very dark times. I look forward to working with our brilliant creative team as we endeavor to bring a fresh, unexpected and pertinent story to life once more.

Same here... If I ever get internet. Lol.

But this has me super stoked. Post-nemesis is vastly in need of exploration!

This sounds exciting! Never thought it would actually happen. I haven't enjoyed any new Star Trek since 2005 but with Stewart back I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

I'll just port this across from the DISCO thread

Something worth bearing in mind is that old Spock in the JJ movies came from the Prime timeline post-Nemesis when Data (having been reborn in B4) was Captain of the 1701-E so it'll be interesting to see where they go with Picard.

[edit] Just re-read Countdown, he's Ambassador Picard in there so that might be a hint as to the direction of the new series. I'd also be down for more young Picard antics like in Tapestry, albeit told in flashback and not time travel, like.

Convinced to rejoin the Trek franchise nearly two decades after his formerly-final appearance in 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis, Stewart cautioned the audience that the Jean-Luc Picard may not be the same man we knew. “He may not be a captain anymore,” he said. “Twenty years has passed, which is nearly the length of time between Nemesis and today.”

Extremely excited for this... but, it is definitely something to be apprehensive about as a HUGE Picard & TNG fan.

All good things was partly set 25 years in a possible future when Picard was suffering from Irumodic Syndrome. I wonder if that is something they are going develop on the new series as it has been 24 years since the TNG finale.

Just wonder if he took Kirk's words to heart about not letting anything get him off the bridge of a ship.

Too bad I'm on a crappy browser on my phone. I'd love to post the "poster" of Picard playing Guitar.

My initial reaction: *curse words* I am NOT signing up for that damn CBS crap especially since I already have a netflix sub for the mom to watch stuff, and will inevitably get dragged into a Disneyflix subscription! You can't make me! *whine*

After cooling down reaction:

I think this could be an interesting vehicle for Picard, especially if they decide to revisit his interest in archaeology. Take the beginning of Rascals for instance (yeah, I know it's a lame episode but gimmie a sec) you can see how he just lets loose going into the little pieces of pottery to the point where Guinan has to reel him back in. That Picard could make for a good ambassador character and perhaps more of a "strange new worlds" series if they wanted to go that way. Maybe have Picard visit a planet where there's a more unique problem amongst the populace that someone with his experience might be able to help with or analyze (in the case of past problems).

Of course, I'd also like some little cameos here and there. Certain ageless characters might be too old to appear, but other characters could pop in.

It sounds like a new Terminator movie. In other words, something way past its prime.

Anyway, 15 years since Star Trek ended, and it's finally coming back. I'm cautiously optimistic, but hell, it not being a shitty reboot or prequel goes a long way toward making me feel okay about it.

And I hope they use this series to sprinkle some Picard dust on a new crew for an ongoing series set at the turn of the 25th century.
