profile 1.1 players are not required to decode all audio codecs though. I don't know where you got that tidbit. For DTS-HD MA they only need to decode the core.
Any chance having a DTS-MA track on a flagship title might persuade Sony to get their act together on DTS-MA decoding on the PS3? With even the newest players (such as the Panny announced yesterday) forgoing DTS-MA decoding, I don't see how this would stir up political problems with the other CE manufacturers, who seem to be content with maximizing profit margins at the expense of this feature.

thank you,

My notes show that the audio tracks will be sourced from 20 bit master files rather than the 24 bit in North America. This was done to save a bit of space without materially affecting performance.

The disc will also include all the major subtitled languages:

English, Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English (for hearing impaired), Finnish, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Slovene, Swedish, Turkish.

The disc will be coded for all regions.

I would really enjoy getting some old CD's in a lossless format.
This would be a Sony Music question. I don't think they will release titles without at least some form of video content though.

For any of you insiders, what is the relationship between the Universal Music Group and their movie business? Do they have any influence whether or not they go neutral?

I'm just wondering, because the corporate stand is format neutral but within their divisions they seem to do their own thing...

I'll have to be more careful next time.
My mistake it was Philips and here's the link.

But you are right it is renew, hopefully with the new 1.1 players the 1.0 will got on sale and well see some nice prices for new people to into BD.

Industry would like us to standardise to HDMI. It's in their interests. What's worth avoiding are DVI to HDMI conversion adaptors. These can degrade the signal, and a DVI to HDMI cable is preferred where ncecessary.

Thanks alot, the reason i ask is my TV is about 3 years old and only has a DVI and components and right now im using HDMI from PS3 to DVI cable to TV, it would really suck if i had to buy a new TV right away.

Anything is possible, but the bigger problem is the hardware, if is not there is not possible. So the 256MB of memory is required and the second decoder is required. And that might be a problem i never heard of anything saying the first generation have two decoders build in.

Paid, you mentioned that the Bravia commercials may not make it onto Blu-ray... Maybe they could be put on the Playstation Store for us PS3 owners? I'd also like to get the new BR/PS3 commercials I saw at the playstation 3 blog on HD media.

I'm not an insider, but Universal Music Group is owned by Vivendi. Vivendi sold 80% of Universal to General Electric a few years ago. (Vivendi still owns the remaining 20% though)

Again, this is not a Sony issue.
DTS has to present them with a working software solution.

So far all DTS-HD/MA decoding is done in hardware.

It may be a good time for the BDA to open up the war chest (whether physical or on paper) and respond with certain effective countermeasures this holiday season. It’s their money, they know how best to invest it in this process.
If well timed it could hit HD-DVD for six, seeing as it looks like few, if any, stores have these $99 HD-DVD A2's in stock!

Looks like another Transformers smokescreen.

How would such a scheme work? How would the PC know the portable version was deleted? And the portable could get lost, stolen, damaged, etc.

Great minds think alike ?

I know that like the Paramount deal, a three day fire sale won’t win the war for HD DVD (esp. when Wal*Mart buyers start comparing how much they will be spending on future HD DVD discs compared to the price of the player). If this latest HD DVD volley proves significant, it may extend the war (by possibly influencing WB)……….that’s all.

It may be a good time for the BDA to open up the war chest (whether physical or on paper) and respond with certain effective countermeasures this holiday season. It’s their money, they know how best to invest it in this process.

I just view this latest Toshiba gesture as another sign of desperation as it is not sustainable over time.
We do think alike on this! Also this could potentially backfire since this "dumping" will give the public a perceived "low" price and "value" for the HD-DVD player. Now when it goes back up to $200 or other newer HD-DVD players sell for more people will say "this was just selling for $99! Why should I pay more?"

I think the latest digital bits sums the up very nicely (11/1/07):

I love my PS3....

Is Sony *ever* going to work on the web browser?

Sony launched a mini-site for the CE3K BD & DVD release. If you try to access it via the PS3 you can't. Instead you are told that you need Flash 8. This would be funny if weren't so sad and pathetic. I realize I'm probably in the minority but the PS3 is allowing us to hold off a little longer on buying a Mac and it would be really great if they could address some of the browser issues.

But they got the publicity that they wanted with the public. Now people will see that there are none in stock and will make the assumption that they sold out and are a hot product, even if that wasnt the case.

Is there any new technology that initially introduced at $1000 level then hits $100 level only one year since inception? Toshiba is indeed destroying eco-system of the industry by artificial pricing tactics...
