I use the Power A wireless GameCube Controller. Sure, I lose amiibo support but I don't care. And I always turn rumble off on all controllers and systems.

This would be one situation where I wouldn't want a direct remake. Gen 4 needs some serious updates and fixes.

BW2 are solid and hold up well. Gen 2 has issues but I had fun replaying them for the 20th anniversary. Gen 1 is a complete and total slog and I can't see myself ever playing them again. Gen 4 wasn't that great even as a kid, can't imagine time has helped it any.

I would absolutely buy Fire Red and Soul Silver if they put them up on the eShop.

We’re likely to get a Let’s Go Johto next year before Gen 9 launches in 2023, but after the initial joy of playing through Kanto in an HD 3D game the charm of Let’s Go wore off on me quickly.

My most anticipated improvement is to be able to KO a Blissey, and for the health meter to deplete in under 4 seconds as opposed to (what feels like) 40 minutes.

I enjoyed playing through Gens I and II when they were re-released for the 3DS (all six of them!), and while I had the patience to complete Pearl and Platinum back in the day, I hadn't bothered to complete Diamond as well. I loved Platinum, and the pacing was a marked improvement over Diamond/Pearl, but my God is Gen IV sluggish. (and that same criticism extends to the Gen II remakes)

I thought the Gen V games were well-paced. Certainly more so than previous gens. It improved upon the Gen IV engine in virtually every conceivable way.

I would happily buy ALL versions, however, they really ought to add a fast-forward setting. Ideally, I would love for any such re-releases to be issued physical releases in bundles (for example, Red/Blue/Yellow, Gold/Silver/Crystal, Black/White/Black 2/White 2 etc.).

Let's Go Gen II makes too much sense given that most of the work has already been done for them with Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee. I hope they don't reimpose the artificial limits of Kanto from the Gen II games (as some caves/buildings were heavily downscaled due to cartridge limitations). It really p'ed me off when these same limitations from the Game Boy releases carried over to HeartGold/SoulSilver when there was no technical reason to do so.

With the anime focusing on past regions, it wouldn't surprise me if we get Gen IV remakes and Let's Go Gen II one after the other (even though consecutive remakes are unprecedented for the franchise), followed by Gen 9 in 2023. I think a Gen IV remake is far more likely to happen this year given that this year coincides with the 15th anniversary of its Japanese release.

Animal crossing sales are just nuts. Almost passed Mario Kart 8 in less than a year and that’s an evergreen title that’s been selling well since 2017.

Its on its way to selling more than the rest of the games in the series combined. That’s insane. It will be one of the Top 5 best selling Nintendo games of all time soon if you take out bundled with console games and even with those included it might make it there.

In other highlights,

I really wish it wasn't so stripped of content though. It's missing SO much from previous animal crossing games.

They sell their hardware at a profit from day one so the main reason on their end would be to get that profit from existing owners who will upgrade.

But yeah, who knows if the profit forecasting on that is worth it for them. I’d 100% triple dip if they made one though (have a launch Switch and Switch Lite). I’m actively using my Switch less as I’m just disinclined to play 1080p games after getting a 4KTV. It’s not as bad as pretty much never wanting to touch the SD Wii after getting an HDTV, but it’s still a disincentive when there’s so many great games I want to play on PS5 and XSX that look better.

There’s also games like Age of Calamity with garbage frame rates that keep me from buying them (demo made me a little nauseous with how bad the drops were). In an era of so many games being stable 4K60FPS and even some at 120fps, there’s no way I’m spending money on anything that can’t even hold a stable 30fps at sub-1080p. Hopefully a pro would fix that and also mean BOTW2 doesn’t have frame drops and pop in like the first game.

That's a disingenuous milestone as it doesn't include Crystal while the Sword/Shield sales figures include the Expansion Pass physical releases as well (which fulfills more or less the same function as the "third" versions of years gone by). Gold/Silver/Crystal combined have sold over 30 million units.

Sword/Shield still needs to best the combined sales figures of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum first (which it almost certainly will), which sold over 24 million units.
