Sadly my benchmark decision on a player is subtitle control. At a min the oppo/Sony/pioneer shift capability. Ideally Panasonic with finer shift and luminance. Reading the manual there are a tonne of options for closed captioning. And that I don't get - from what disc????? Region unlocking would be nice too...

No optical output though? Come on Tascam, you could have done better than that.

Optical isn't a big deal for me personally, but If I ever transport the player to a friend's house to enjoy a 4K movie, optical is always an easy hookup for audio through their soundbar/ receivers. |

Based on the manual it has some interesting audio features
- volume control - vomume control affects also HDMI and S/PDIF outputs - S/PDIF can be switched to output LR downmix, FL FR, C SW, SL SR or SBL SBR channel pairs - different downmix modes (Dolby headphone, Dolby virtual soeaker etc.) I wish it had eARC and HDMI input - would have been a perfect compact home teather processor like Oppo UDP-203 is. |

Seems like it is out. Has anyone seen any reviews yet?

Well, there are publications, paper and web, that specialize in professional a/v equipment reviews. Home theatre aficionados like us will certainly be able to find close-by resellers as Tascam products are often found in musical instruments stores.

I hear you... There are seven Tascam resellers in a 4 km radius from my home.
If anything, the Tascam BD-MP4K will be more readily available than when I bought my Oppo 203: if memory serves me right, I had the choice between one brick and mortar reseller here in Montreal or two web resellers in Toronto. Last edited by Kewl; 02-01-2021 at 12:14 AM. |
