What Camera to choose?

Sorry for the wrong thread location but wasn't sure where to put it.....I am in the market for a digital camera, but not really familiar with them. What would you suggest for having a budget for $350

I realize youre not looking for a camcorder, but this would be closest section for cameras.

Try to find a Canon G9, last years model or you might get lucky and find a G10 for $350, very nice fully manual camera but can be very simple point and shoot as well

just be really careful with video cameras.....there is alot to consider if you are looking to get a quality picture....

The problem is that people normally only look for resolution and not really the quality of picture coming out of that "resolution"

HDV is complete garbage in my opinion but if you don't mind getting a dull picture you might be able to get away with buying one used. anything I would recommend to you would be way over the $350 price range but its good to look into them an find out what you can do without and bring your prices down.

look into resolution and the color depth (HD uncompressed 4:4:4 is the best and HDV 4:1:1 being pretty poor)

Sony has a nice little camera HDV Z1U and Canon has something in the price of that.

Red has a small point and shoot coming out this year called the scarlet but its still too expensive around 2000-3000 for the lowend (www.red.com)

For $350 im not sure what you will find because I find the consumer cameras are so horribly overpriced for what they are when these mid - high end cameras are getting cheaper.

I would recommend a secondhand digital SLR. There are plenty of cheap Canon Digital Rebels out there, and probably a fair few cheap Nikons as well.

Quite true, you could pick up a D100, and soon, maybe even a D80 at that price. Then start collecting high end full-frame lenses, over time. Eventually you can justify buying the latest (at the time) full frame DSLR.
