So 88 films is going to release something early? That's pretty nice and unexpected

I try to refrain from preordering any boutique Blu-rays from Amazon in general both because shipments have a tendency to either come damaged and/or preorders go out of stock (see also: Eternal Sunshine Kino 4K). I usually do Best Buy (especially since they’ve started offering free shipping on orders without a $35 minimum) or third party like Grindhouse or OrbitDVD. And occasionally, I might preorder from Target because of their 20% off promos every now and then, on top of having a red card.

I ended up grabbing this set from Target after cancelling my Amazon preorder, since this one qualified for the 20% off. Was able to stack with an extra $10 off and 5% for the redcard so it came out to be $41.41, so even if I have to wait a little extra, I'm definitely not going to complain. Now I just need Error 4444 to put up the Fatal Termination pre-order...

Orbit and Diabolik for me, mostly because I order so much stuff from the UK, but yeah, Amazon is good only if I'm going for the cheapest price, don't care when I receive it, and don't think it'll end up damaged.

With the unpredictability of 88 release dates though, indie businesses are definitely the way to go. Unless you're foolish enough to put multiple upcoming releases in the same preorder. I just recently made that mistake by ordering 88's Whip and the Body with God of Gamblers, and the latter was just delayed almost a month. Good thing I'm not in a rush to get the former.

I’ve actually never ordered from Diabolik before, despite hearing very good things. I almost bought the 88 release of the Tiger Cage trilogy when they restocked it, only for Shout’s release to be announced right around that time and I’d end up preordering that during the 20% off promo @ Target because despite being a Region Free owner, I prefer Region A when possible just to be safe. And while I am very aware that Shout has many issues, I’m hopeful for this one considering they’re likely working off of 88’s very recent release (and Brandon Bentley having involvement, of course).

That Target 20% off promo actually happened not long after I preordered it from Grindhouse, but I’m not losing sleep over spending a bit more in the end considering I trust Grindhouse much more than Target and the likelihood of getting it in earlier now.

Does this mean customers will get it early or will retailers be receiving it soon but not shipping until close to the release date?

I assume those who preordered from third party (Grindhouse, Diabolik, OrbitDVD, etc.,) will get it early while those who preordered from major retailers (Best Buy, Target, Amazon, etc.,) will get it around street date (05/16).

The post by 88 suggests to me that the set is fully assembled and shipping out to retailers over the next few days, not shipping to customers yet (but more likely to ship to customers well before the official release date).

Some places like Diabolik, and Grindhouse have been known to ship stuff out as soon as they get them, so it's possible you could get yours well in advance if you order from them (moreso from Diabolik from what I've read).

Yes, but typical shipping times from the UK are a few weeks, which still puts this in the hands of US retailers in early-mid April, a full month before the release date.

My best buy preorder says "ready for packaging". Doubt it'll ship early, but it won't let me cancel or modify my order at this point. Whereas other preorders I got still have the ability to modify.

There’s no reason to believe these are shipping from the UK. It’s a US release. Unless they press these discs in the UK that would mean importing, paying imprint taxes into the UK, exporting, paying import tax into the US

Well the company is based in the UK, said they had these in hand and were shipping to US retailers, and took pictures and videos they shared on social media. So that was why I assumed they were shipping from the UK, but it’s true, I don’t really know for sure. Hopefully they show up stateside in a few weeks regardless.

I believe this is it.

Since Eureka weren't able to do their interviews and 88 announced this set was coming in way earlier, I included this along with my Arrow April preorders. Can't wait!

I've only seen the first two so far (both amazing enough and justify the set alone), but I've only ever heard good things about Three and especially Four.

Was going to order, but it's in the UK. Probably just wait until Diabolik has them in stock.
