I'd love to have all the Harry Potter movies in 3D on Blu-Ray.

Looking forward to seeing this last Star Wars film in 3D again. We need more 3D movies in theaters. When theaters eventually reopen if they don't go out of business first.
Except that COV19 will pretty much ensure that people arent going to wear glasses used by others. I'd be surprised if theaters have any 3D this year.

That's true for the IMAX glasses, though for Real D 3D theaters, all of those are sealed in brand new plastic sleeve packaging, for my theaters anyway. But yeah, I hope we get more 3D movies this year in theaters when they open up again hopefully soon. This whole thing really stinks.

The virus is killed in so many days. They just need to give them time to age like good spirits.

Same here. I always receive a sealed pair of 3D glasses at my local (non-IMAX) theater.

IMAX 3D glasses are almost always re-used since those are larger and likely much more expensive. But with the severe lack of IMAX 3D showings these days, it's kind of a non-issue.

And how would you know that they had done so?

Many of those realD 3d glasses are repackaged tho. That's why they have people return them at the end of the films.

I hadn't really thought of how Corona would effect 3D at cinema til now. This could end all 3D content for good if its no longer going to be on theater screens. If it completely stops in theaters cause of concerns with the glasses then Disney and others might decide to stop with the 3D blurays.

Well;

1) Theatres just have to stop collecting glasses and add 10c to each 3D ticket
2) 3D movies which are already well into post-production will still get a 3D release - the studio has already invested the $$$
3) This time next year we may have herd immunity and a vaccine.
4) Look to China for a post-COVID reaction and whether it affects 3D sales.

I'm not so sure of this, studios have dropped 3D presentations before.

If numbers visiting theatres take a huge hit generally then I can see 3D being dropped by theatres (because itís already starting from a low base). But I canít see the cause being contamination from glasses. Thatís easy to solve and there are probably 100 other ways you would have contracted the virus before you got to touching the glasses.

Yes this will eventually pass but the thing is.. I think the longer it lasts the more likely 3D goes away. So the sooner this all clears up the better for obvious reasons and for 3D life!

So youíre saying no more 3D since 2D is the historical norm.

AMC theaters in the US has been losing $30-$40M per week just to stay in business, with no revenue coming in at all. It's likely theaters will start shutting down for good as it doesn't look like the COVID-19 quarantine strategy is going away any time soon.

I donít think anyone under the age of 20 cares about Avatar. Hell I drove 45 minutes just to see the 15min preview back in the day and I couldnít care less about Avatar 2.

No it won't. Maybe for theaters but not for home.

And this comes from a guy with 300+ 3D discs.
