Check all the picture settings, and which picture mode is selected. Is the picture mode you're using (or any others) calibrated?

to the best of my knowledge - picture modes (selection) would not be the cause of micro-blocking - just trying to be helpful - neither would 'any' picture settings

My best guidance would be to contact LG technical support hopefully that'll get you where you need to be for a solution

Just a thought - cable(s)? - - or - connections?

Probably either your player or cables

That's not a bad idea to tinker with some of the picture settings even though jibucha mentioned it would not be the cause. However, I am not even sure if it is a macroblocking issue but it sure looks like it. I don't think it's a cable issue as it happens with multiple devices.

I have the Directv box (running into my receiver) set to Expert (Bright Room)

My basic Panasonic Blu-ray player (which has the issue) is also set to Expert (Bright Room)

The OPPO also defaults to Expert (Bright Room), but I should really set it to Cinema mode. I did a factory reset on my OLED a while back and never really set things back to how they were originally assigned.

TV OPPO is set to TV- led for Dolby Vision/HDR content.

I'm still experiencing the issue even on a different player, so I think it's something related to the TV which explains why Directv content does it as well. I'll have to change up some picture settings and watch some different content to see how it reacts.

I decided to freeze frame the issue and then change the settings from Bright Room to Cinema and it looks MUCH better! I'll definitely be doing some more experimenting with it this evening.

Just wanted to list my settings for Cinema mode.

OLED: 80
Contrast: 85
Brightness: 45
Sharpness: 0
Color: 80
Tint: Zero

Expert Controls

Dyn Contrast- off
Super Resolution- low
Normal color gamut
Edge Enhancer - on
color filter - off
gamma 2.2

Picture options
Noise red- low
mpeg noise - off
black level - low
Real Cinema - forced On
Motion eye care - off
TruMotion - off

Before- Focus just under the eye/cheek area -it has pixelation under the Brightness settings

After-When I switch it to Cinema it is much smoother and the weird pixel issue disappears.

This is a much better before/after example as you can see the weird pixelation pattern all over the shirt.
Before- Setting on Expert Bright Room

After- Cinema mode- it completely disappears!

I suggested the picture settings/picture modes to possibly address the "rash" in the shared image which doesn't actually look like macro-blocking to me (such as caused by over-compression or insufficient video data). I have seen some color oddities that are somewhat similar, but not the same, that are affected by picture settings. I suggested checking the picture mode, because it's not unusual for some oddity of the image quality suddenly becoming apparent to be the result of an unintended picture mode change. My point with the picture mode was to be sure it hadn't inadvertently been changed from the one desired, and to compare calibrated with uncalibrated modes if possible. Sometimes a problem with calibration of a picture mode can result in some oddities/artifacting that are similar to the "rash."

I assume these are for the SDR Cinema mode. Don't forget that HDR and DV each have their own set of picture modes and picture settings that are independent of those for SDR despite some of the picture modes having the same names.

If you still find anything where you're noticing any artifacting (like the "rash") or pixelation, try changing Edge Enhancer and Noise Reduction settings to see if they have any effect. Also try changing the Super Resolution (although I think it unlikely to have any effect) and MPEG Noise Reduction settings.

My SDR settings (LG OLEDC9) for comparison:
Picture mode: Cinema (The ISF Expert modes should work well too.)

Energy Saving - Off

AI Picture - Off

OLED LIGHT - 28
Contrast - 85
Brightness - 50
Sharpness - 10
Color - 50
Tint - 0

Expert Controls
Dynamic Contrast - Off
Super Resolution - Off
Color Gamut - Auto (N/A on LUT calibrated picture modes)
Gamma - 2.4 (N/A on on LUT calibrated picture modes)
Peak Brightness - Off

Picture Options
Noise Reduction - Off
MPEG Noise Reduction - Off
Smooth Gradation - Off
Black Level - Low
Real Cinema - On (Off for the OTA Tuner)
Motion Eye Care - Off

Note: My Cinema mode is calibrated using Calman, so a couple of the settings are not applicable. The settings I listed for those are what I used before calibrating, and would still use now if the picture mode wasn't calibrated. These settings are also what I use for ISF Dark Mode, which isn't calibrated.

I'm not using a DirecTV or Panasonic Blu-ray player, but I do have an Oppo 103 and Oppo 203 connected.

Also don't forget that the picture mode and settings are independent by input, and "Apply to All Inputs" doesn't copy all of the settings. Very easy on these TVs to think you have everything set, but to later find one or two settings off for a particular input.

My husband and I finally liked the price on the LG 65" C1 OLED this Black Friday and picked one up from Amazon. Set the TV up 2 nights ago and noticed a flicker or some kind of interference straight away. It shows up in the home menu, in apps, while watching via our Ultra 4k Roku or Xbox series X.

This video shows how bad it was at first. (stupid youtube is only letting me upload as a short but hopefully you can see the issue)
https://youtube.com/shorts/TclG9J2xxE8

Screenshot of the issue. It's a bunch of lines that run right across the TV.

It can show up anywhere on the screen. Sometimes it's not as thick as in the video. Last night, 24 hours after first firing up the TV, it was happening maybe every 30 seconds to 2 minutes. We started by turning off power saving options. Didn't help, so we did a factory reset. The flashing seemed to be less frequent but still happened. We then did a soft reset (power off for 60 seconds and then we did the power off 60 seconds & holding the power button for 30). Again, it seemed a little better and just when we thought it might have been okay, it flashed across the screen again.

We even tried unplugging everything but the power cord to see if something was interfering with it but it still did it. Wondering if the issue is the actual power cord or just some of our equipment that is close to the TV? Or is the TV a dud?

Looks like an issue with the TV. I'd try and exchange it for another one.

Of course, Amazon doesn’t have any more. I could cry. We’ll probably have to pony up the extra for the C2. Already moved our none oled LG upstairs. Couldn’t be bothered moving it back.

reminder :: I highly recommend contacting LG customer support - you should be able to get satisfaction - if there's anything wrong with the panel or the processor, they'll replace it at no charge - have you contacted them yet? good luck

ps :: one of our for LG OLED's was DOA - although it took a short period of time to replace the problem(s) - - TV works perfect since then, and in my experience, 'their customer service is exceptional' - I really believe it's worth a 'try' (they will fix it that it works as should be expected) - you should get a perfect working television out of it, as you originally expected (a little late inconvenience along the way, but it's worth it)

pss :: surprisingly, of our four current OLED's, that's my favorite - in terms of picture quality and sound quality - is, actually surprisingly, the one that arrived DOA, as I already indicated, I like the best - it was a little inconvenient (looking at it the way most people do - although for myself, I just worked with LG - they worked with me - and the television got repaired promptly - as should be expected), and is functioning as I originally expected, so personally - I'm very happy with the company (product and customer service)

Contact LG, even though the TV has issues out of the box? I guess I’m super annoyed that a brand new TV is having issues and just want to return it…but with Amazon not having more, it either means paying more for the C2 or fixing a new Tv. Argh.

I wouldn't want a faulty new TV fixed. It's your right to a full replace or refund within the first 30 days under UK law. If Amazon can't replace, just take the money and run.

My personal experience of LG customer service was appalling. It was a brand new UH850V in 2016 with atrocious light bleed, and they wouldn't do anything because it was "within their usual tolerances" or some such nonsense. I had to take it back to the store instead who replaced it (the replacement was still a terribly made TV, but at least the bleed was better enough to put up with for a while).

If it was me, I would return it, get your money back. See what the upcoming Christmas holiday brings on the C2 pricing, if not, wait it out a bit longer, the C3 gets announced in January, and around Super Bowl retailers will make a push to move their 2022 models due to 2023 models right around the corner. If you can buy locally such as a Best Buy, etc.

Even after living in the US for the past 15 years, I'm still more familiar with UK law. I think we do get 30 days here. Maybe longer during the holidays seeing as my return window for literally everything I've bought since November, is January 31st, including the TV.

I wasn't sure if we'd missed the window to get a really awesome deal. Looks like we may not have. Now I just need to see if my husband can be bothered moving the old TV back. We had set it up in our living room.

I ended up getting the LG C2 48" today from Best Buy. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend but in the end I'm sure it'll be worth it. Anyway, is there any concerns that I need to know about about this? This is my first 4K and bought it solely on recommendations and reviews about being the best TV available today. It'll probably be a few days before I can get this unboxed and set up.

Update on my C1 issue. Amazon just said it sounded faulty and started a return so we reboxed it back up. UPS are picking it up tomorrow.

Decided we really couldn't be bothered moving the old LG (4k but not OLED) back to the basement, so bought the C2 from Best Buy. It's so much lighter, which we liked. Fired up the same movie (via Xbox series X) we started with on the C1 and I didn't think the picture was as good. Didn't have the same wow factor for me..... Then we saw the shadowy vertical lines. WTAF. Continued the movie and could see them in several scenes really quite significantly. Tried live TV, yep, still there. Tried the Roku and on that too. Running a pixel scrub and will see how it is in the morning. I'm about to give up in LG. Our 65" 4k TV had lines and we just lived with them. No idea what we'll try next if this pixel scrub doesn't work..

That seems to be the common experience with LG's TV support

I would return it because most definitely you have a defective tv. Since the C1 is out of stock, maybe Amazon will ship you the C2 model as a replacement with no additional cost, or give you a discount on the C2 because, the C1 should still be under the one year manufacturer's warranty after you've purchased it.
