^Just saw yesterday Blue Velvet is apparently getting the Criterion treatment. I'm not upgrading unless they do a UHD though.

Yeah saw that the other day.... this was already on its way, not overly concerned, this gets a good review for its pic quality, seems to have most of the same extras and was only $20....

I will admit that I was pretty pissed when I saw that they were releasing this! There are two other Criterion May releases I'm more interested in!

I have a JB AU order at 36 days and counting. Strangely half of another JB order that I placed 12 days later arrived today, so it might be time for a friendly email.
Both of the above arrived today:

I’m not entirely happy with the condition that Waterworld arrived in. It was just packaged in a cardboard envelope, and every corner has slight damage. (The plastic wrap was broken and corners dinged.) The worst is limited to the J card which will probably go in a drawer never to be seen, so maybe I’m being too picky? Is it worth complaining to Amazon UK?

mine was the same in terms of cardboard packaging. I guess Amazon's shipping is cheap for a reason. *sigh* I did get lucky though, in that mine didn't sustain any damage worth complaining about.

might be worth you sending them an email though - even if you don't want to return it, you might still be able to get a partial refund out of them. Fair chance they'll just straight-up offer to refund the shipping cost without even being asked

Is it that much better than the Australian Blu-ray which I got in a 3 for $20 deal?

It's almost certainly the same encode. The UK disc is a double BD-25, so they basically split the movie and the extras onto separate discs (although there's an additional 45 minute interview with Dennis Hopper that's not on the Australian disc). It's the second-best transfer on any David Lynch film I've seen on BD so far, second only to Mulholland Dr.

A few new arrivals today. Took advantage of Zavvi's discounted Arrow titles, and I also wanted the American BD extras for Last Shift...

I actually had Boondock Saints on pre-order when it was first announced, but decided I didn't really need it since I have the Region B-friendly German edition. But once I found out the German edition has a pitiful bitrate, I was eying the Arrow release - and the sale seemed like a good opportunity.

Additionally, ordered from eBay for $19:

Watched this one on Stan. and was surprised by how enjoyable it was. There's no local BD release which is hugely disappointing (particularly since I would have gotten a review copy if there was a local BD ), so I decided to take the plunge.

And pre-ordered:

I've been thinking about the American BD for years, but the superior edition has always been a bit too pricey for my tastes. Seems like holding off was the smart choice. With every Stephen King property ever becoming popular again thanks to It, methinks we'll see ample double dips in the next few years.

It is probably close to 30 years since I last saw this. Wow that makes me feel old!
8.5/10 - Hilarious. Robin Williams was a genius! PQ was pretty good for a movie from the 80s. A bit of grain in some scenes, but nothing obtrusive, and better than smearing it away with noise reduction. The audio sounded a bit dated at times, but overall was good. I laughed a lot

I really wanted to watch Waterworld, but I have an early start tomorrow, so I’ll save the 3 hour long Ulysses cut for the weekend.

The crappy cardboard box is standard for Amazon UK. I don’t think you would get much satisfaction complaining to them. Don’t think they give a shit about crushed slips or damaged cases.
I’ve had my fair share of slightly crushed slips (80% of the time) and several cases arriving cracked/damaged.

Just Amazon US.

I pre-ordered Cujo with Zavvi. They're getting a nice boost in business from me. Not perfect by any stretch, but they get the job done.
