I watched Tropic Thunder on NZ Netflix (through the PS4 app) almost exactly three months ago and it was fine. All in English. Be interesting to see if it's changed since then. If it has, would indicate that the rights issue is shared by both Aussie and NZ.

I must admit, I'm intrigued how some bits of dialog like "never go full retard" and Jack Black rattling off all the sexual favours he's prepared to perform in exchange for being untied would sound in German... but then again, BD has a German dub audio option anyway

Default Cash Converters gives up on DVDs

Found out that my local cash converters refuses to stock blurays anymore which means i have to use facebook or savers now. He said that all of them refuse to sell blurays or dvds anymore and its not worth it for them. This is obviously an issue for oop and collectable releases imo and not good for collectors in Australia

That is sad. I hope they keep selling them in NZ. The selection is always hit and miss, but I’ve picked up some great movies on BD there for $3-5, which is a lot cheaper than trademe or other second hand sources over here.

The Blu-rays at my local one was overpriced but without them I wouldn't have started getting DVDs (and updating to Blu-rays same year) with their cheap "classic movies".

I know a lot of people who go to CC for movies, but I've honestly never even tried to see if they had any I need/ want. Always associated them with DVD's and not so much blu-rays.

I, perhaps wrongly, assumed they only sold shitty movies no one has ever heard of; I guess I never really looked.

I do recall them having had some OOP highly-valuable releases available super cheap according to some, years ago. WCW PPVs on VHS, from memory.

I have a huge stack of DVDs and a smallish stack of Blus I don't want, but with postage and fees I couldn't possibly break even selling them on eBay. Was thinking about CC as an option as I could just take them in and at least get something for them. Might as well just bin them now I guess, as much of a waste as that seems.

I'm in the same boat.

I'd love for this site to allow a dedicated Trading Forum specific to each geographic (international) region. The few times I've posted in this forum linking to my thread in the Trading Forum, they've been deleted.

I've got a bunch of Blu's I know I'll never watch again, but I know I'll never be able to sell unless I offer them cheap, in bulk.

I've tossed a couple hundred DVD's in the bin over the past few years. I'm nearly at the point of doing the same with some Blu's.

I agree it would be great for the site to have somewhere we could list DVDs/Blu Rays we want to sell within our countries.

Its certainly better than throwing them away.

I've managed to sell box sets and limited editions and the like, but who's gonna buy my DVD of Sherlock Holmes for more than it costs to post?

I've never used pawn shops for my old DVDs or Blu-rays. Back maybe 12 years ago, I tried to pawn a handful of DVDs I no longer needed... I was offered $10 for four flicks. I can't remember the titles mind you, but physical media was in a sturdier state.

So I never tried that again.

In 2007 when new release DVDs were $30, catalogues were $20 and above, and a 2 for $30 was a good deal?

Now Id be more inclined to sell for that. But back then it seemed like a joke.

Yeah, Facebook Marketplace regularly has listings of people selling movies on DVD or Blu for even as low as a couple of bucks per title, and at least local to me insisting purchesers pick up rather than paying posting to send out. Its free to list so not much to lose I suppose if you're desperate.

For me, I usually find people at work I can sell them to for a few bucks; DVD's are great because people I know at my work actually still want them. Crazy...

Worse case scenario is I give them away, usually to family or friends; better than throwing them out.

I sell unwanted DVDs & Blu Rays to friends (very cheaply) and certain titles on eBay.

I did a cull of my collection a year and a half ago and sold a number of discs on eBay including some Criterions. Of course I 'lost' money on all but one title - At Long Last Love which is no longer in print and very costly to purchase second hand as a result so I ended up getting about $70. I'd only purchased it in the first place to re-watch it and because it was the 'original' director's cut and was curious to see the film - still didn't care much for it.

I recently put a number of Blu Rays & DVDs on eBay and have noticed very little interest. I suspect they are going to be harder to sell for a number of reasons:

1) The 'rise' of streaming;

2) The declining interest in physical media by the general public;

3) The GST interested on foreign items on eBay has possibly had an effort on ordinary people selling some stuff they no longer want (i.e. some people may think they need to pay GST them so have stopped buying anything);

4) Australia is heading for a recession (or worse) and people are being more cautious with their spending.

I have also sold off a lot of my poster collection and like the discs have noticed a lack of interest this time round.

There really isn't much interest in movie memorabilia anymore. I have a large collection of lobby cards but think the effort to put them on eBay simply isn't worth it. Its interesting I used to go to Paris on a regular basis during the 1990s until my last visit in 2001. I'd indulge myself buying posters and French lobby cards from the various shops around Paris - got to know some of the owners.

Last October was my first visit to Paris since 2001. I hadn't planned to buy any more memorabilia but when we arrived decided if I found lobby cards for about a dozen of so favourite titles of the last 17 years or so I'd buy them. However, there was not a single shop left - all closed. I was surprised in a way but not in another but it also shows if the film loving capital of the world no longer has shops to sell posters and movie memorabilia things have changed forever.

You're obviously going to lose money relative to your original purchase even with a value-holder like Criterion, unless as you say it's OOP. But for a lot of single-film standard releases the postage cost, plus eBay and PayPal fees, is higher than the price of a new disc from JB. No point even listing it.

Default Unleashing the Demons

Some of you here have been following the production of my new flick, Unleashing the Demons. This last weekend we got back to shooting for the first time since October (scheduling is horrendous, especially since we're all full-time workers, and my DP comes from Melbourne). Happy to say that the movie will likely exceed 70 minutes with the new material now, making this my first "legit"-sized movie.

We had a good time. Here are a few snaps:

Speaking of posters, I think I should really get something for my room - all the walls are bare white atm (rebuilt home) and I am not sure what to put up there....lol. Part of me thinks it'd be a shame to put anything up at all, but I just don't know.
