I see what you are saying, but that whole scene was just to set her up to be phone-less / out of contact with family.
i know that but he could've just grabbed her phone and smashed it or something. i thought throwing it into whatever it was was a bit OTP

I asked this question in the Halloween Complete Collection thread, and was quickly reminded that it wasn't for discussion of THIS movie, since this film isn't included in that collection. Fair Enough.

I'll ask again in here and give reason as to why I'm asking again.

This Halloween eliminates ALL the Halloween sequels that involve the subplot of Laurie being Michaels sister. OK....I can accept that.

However, with all that no longer being in existence....what is Michael's motivation for stalking Laurie Strode?

Several had told me that he isn't. He has no clue about Laurie's past 20 years preparing to kill him, and it was the DOCTOR who attempted to bring Michael TO Laurie and Michael was following her granddaughter and just happened to stumble across Laurie's house in the woods by accident, and decided to kill whoever lived in that random house, maybe where her granddaughter escaped to. According to people who answered me, Michael had no idea this was the home of the same girl he stalked 40 years earlier who survived his attack. If THIS is true, then this is the worst writing ever. It's easier to believe they are siblings and he is stalking her.

Now...the write up description on the bluray case for this film SAYS that Michael is stalking her and after re-watching it....even the DOCTOR, who KNOWS Michael better than anyone, say's after putting him in the backseat of the police car says to the girl "When he wakes, we're be ready." She asks "Ready for what?" He responds "The reunion. Michael's pursuit of Laurie Strode could be what keeps him alive."

NOw....THAT sentence removes all the answers given to me that Michael was never stalking her and it all happened by accident because the doctor wanted to bring them together. The doctor is VERY AWARE of Michael's pursuit of Laurie and desire to kill her.

With THAT said....I'm back to scratching my hear as to WHY????? WHY is he stalking her? Even in the first film...he first laid eyes on her when she dropped off the key to his house on the doorstep. Ever since that....he was stalking her...at school and home outside her window, and finally when she was babysitting.

But to escape 40 years later and STILL be pursuing her.....WHY???? Why does this doctor believe Michael is pursuing her?

I hope Will Patton's character isn't completely dead.

He was really underused. We see Sertain stab him a few times but I'm hoping someone saved him. I just feel having a character who was "the first to arrive" on the scene as a rookie Deputy only for him to get killed like that is a waste.

He got ran over by Sartain... he ain't making it. Not everybody can be Dewey Riley. Both him and Sartain were a waste of characters. That's one of the things that I had issue with, H18 put forth these characters that have contrived tie ins to the og movie... yet we have zero investment in them and therefore don't care. Laurie Strode? Yes... Halloween Kills is bringing quite a few characters back from the og. Guess they learned their lesson.

I donít think Michael even knew Laurie was still in Haddonfield until he looked out of the window. Itís possible Sartain told him at some point but we have no evidence for it. The back of the Blu-ray says that because it sounds better than ďMichael randomly notices Laurie Strode towards the end of the film and decided to stalk her and her family.Ē In the movie he seems to want to kill whoever he comes across, but perhaps after noticing Laurie she becomes his main target and wants to finish the job he started 40 years ago.

Perhaps Sartain believes Michael has been obsessing over Laurie all these years but the events in the film donít show that.

I donít believe he was pursuing her, but if he did it could be because sheís the one who got away. Maybe she reminded him of his sister or he had some violent sexual fantasy about her. Who knows. The point is weíre not supposed to know why he does what he does or why he chooses certain victims. Maybe he doesnít even know himself. And we were never supposed to know why anyway. Thatís the main difference between him and someone like Freddy or Jason. He has no motive.

Based ONLY on what we see in the movies....I agree with you, because the ONLY reason he stalked her before was they were siblings and he wanted her dead. But now that's been taken away, we're left with nothing. But when I read on the box that he pursued her and heard the doctor also say Michael's pursuit of Laurie....well.....I have to look back and wonder WHY? LOL. Tol much to dismiss as random bloopers.

"Nothing" is all we truly ever had regarding Michael. Not once has any of the attempts to give him "something" in the continuing movies ever been an improvement, in my opinion. Quite the opposite, actually.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE! Just saw it tonight. Direction was great. Editing was great. And most of all, the story was great! All the touchy feeley "let's try to understand the murderer" and sympathize with him, they all got what they deserved. When confronted with unrepentant evil, you got to kill it. Not make friends.

Wow! I thought it was totally smart, had it's scary moments, was extremely clever, well edited and directed and had it's fun moments. I guess I'm just dumb and boring. To each their own, I guess. I've only been watching horror movies for 40 years now, but what do I know.

Finally saw Halloween 2018. It was free to watch on Tubi TV in the US as of today. The sequels aren't on there yet.

For a Michael Myers Halloween film, this was well-done overall IMO in terms of horror. There are going to be victim characters making foolish choices, otherwise Myers would need to be more clever.
Thankfully Jamie Lee Curtis' hero character is mostly smart.

Only issues I had were when the bus crashes with Myers escaping. Whose brilliant idea was it to transport a serial killer in a bus with other prisoners? That's one of those bad choice moments.
The other issue is why didn't Curti's character move away? Answer? Her family refused to believe how serious it was, and stayed in their home town, so it was up to her to protect them and watch over. That makes sense.

The two daughters were interesting of Curtis' family, having some skill or intelligence.

I did like the whole darker tone and theme of the film. It did feel like an extension of the first and second Halloween films IMO, with the pacing and Myers being like a mindless Terminator machine, hunting down his targets.

That's mostly how I see Myers. He's the Terminator, but instead of guns, he carries knives, sent to destroy his targets with no personality, but with supernatural abilities to withstand death that would eliminate any normal person. Like at the end, when he burns in the house trap.

Overall, despite a few flaws, this is a solid entry into the Halloween series IMO. The film brought a sense of tension and dread I wasn't expecting. Good job.

I haven't seen Halloween Kills/Ends.

My main wish for the Myers character is for him to have smarter victims, so he really has to think of ways to outsmart them. But in this series, they're mostly just caught off guard as his main advantage, aside from his brute strength and mindless aggression in the films.

Does Michael Myers ever eat food, drink water? The Rob Zombie films kind of answered those questions by trying to give him more personality with the visions of his evil mother to some degree. Do his wounds automatically heal and how quickly? What evil power fuels this monstrous human?

This film actually negates Halloween II (which is for the best, IMO. The sibling story really needed to go), but it really does feel to me like a logical extension of the original.

If you get to Halloween Kills (it’s only streaming on Max… but I may have a trilogy code I don’t need… gotta check), the opening minutes directly cancel Halloween II out (though the dialogue in 2018 does the same)… and you might get a bit more frustrated with the victims. None of them make any particularly wise decisions.

Ends, though… that’s where things get divisive. Whatever you go in expecting, do not expect more of the same. Ends is not a traditional Halloween film in any sense. It’s not even a slasher-oriented film, really. It has slasher elements but it’s much more of a psychodrama/dark romance. The bulk of its story is only tangentially related to the preceding two films… not really folding into the “main story” until very late in the film.

Zivouhr, please stop now, I implore you. You have seen the best. If you stop now you won't need to see some of the worst writing in recent memory. The two John's and the words Evil Dies Tonight will just be mythical to you, like sightings of Bigfoot. You are so pure, so innocent.

He wasnít pursuing her, he was returning home. Letís not forget, he wasnít stalking her in the original due to being his sibling, he was pursuing her because she just happened to be in his path and he caught sight of her when she posted a letter. The sister stuff was tacked on later.
