To the best of my knowledge, the following people have Rythmik subwoofers.

Hey Big Daddy,
I think you spelled the Name of Rythmik incorrectly.... ![]() Wow, extension from a sealed sub down to 14 hz. And they have more Variable tuning then the Hsu Subs, which get down to 16 hz... These look like awesome subs. Thanks for another informative thread and a heads up on what is available and posting hopefully a fast growing thread. |

I went with a buddy on the road trip to Austin for a demo, We were actually at the house of the owner of Rythmic. I saw a couple of prototype's

That's ****ing awesome. Nice to put a face to the voice on the other end of the phone, lol. I hope you shook his hand, the man is a subwoofer genius. I love the down-firing 15, so a 12 should be cool. However I would give my right arm for a 15" version of the 12SE cabinet. I'm a huge classical fan and it really saddened me that there wasn't one like that for the 15. It has to be ones of the best looking sub cabinets I've ever seen.

Thanks, give me a few more days and a little luck and they'll really shine.
I got done 40min ago with about 50 different positions and angles on the subs. The position they seem to like best is unconventional but I can't argue with the results. I suspect it's a result of the odd shape in the center of the room, but the subs sound better where they are currently at then in any of the other configurations I've tried so far. I even moved around my mains to see if a front and rear setup would of done a better job, but I the subs seem happier where they are. The bass is much more defined and I haven't lost any of the potency. I found the position not too long ago, after a few more movies and sounds to really solidify the decision I started just listening to enjoy. I'm not saying what follows resulted because of the new subwoofer, but it added to the depth of the experience. I started one of my favorite songs, Trane To Conamarra by Bela Fleck and just fell into a trance listening to the song. The celerity was about the same as before but the experience was more encompassing. You could tell before what part of the room the sub was on (one of the down sides to smaller rooms) and it really detracted from the experience. With the second sub added it felt like the band was playing next to me. You could feel each pluck of the bass guitar. I turned off the lights, closed my eyes and sunk into the music. Eager for each new bass note to reverberate over me. I found my eyes getting tired, and I realized my eyes were darting back and forth with my eyes closed like some odd state of rem. Even tho I became conscious of this fact I couldn't really stop it from happening unless I opened my eyes (knida freaky feeling actually). It was almost like my entire body was relaxed to the point where I had a little less conscious control of my actions. It was a serenity that I had never really experienced before (even when I used to 'smoke' when I was younger). After the song was over I was very dizzy and in a daze, very happy and relaxed for the next 30min. I don't think I've ever been that engrossed into a song before. I'll post some images later tonight, for now I want to listen to some more music. Last edited by kareface; 02-02-2010 at 05:45 AM. |

Bah, got delayed in posting. Too much listening, lol.
Got the SPL meter out and the levels set properly. Even placed an order for a new Behringer ECM8000 microphone calibrated by Cross-Spectrum Labs, a mic preamp and the BFD DSP1124P PEQ. I have a microphone I can use but I don't have the cal file for REW. I do plan to get around to building some risers for them, however I'm looking to bring them up a few feet. Thanks to my low ceilings I have some really high energy vertical nodes that I have to address. I need to find the best material for low frequency absorption to jam under the risers. Fiberglass & rockwool is just too ineffective below 100hz so I'm looking for better options, like a Helmholtz resonator or something along those lines. It looks good and I like the color. Just how low are your ceilings that they make the vertical nodes so "excited?" I have 7 foot ceilings, and perhaps I too should look into some better absorbing material for under my risers....?

~78" (different heights at different places) Vertical node dampening gets exponentially harder the shorter the ceilings become. The energy doesn't dissipate as quickly per reflection so the wave can gain energy very easily from the source. If you have your subs on the floor or near the floor like I do, they are at the point where the addition of energy is the most influential, compounding the problem. With shorter ceilings getting the subs further off the floor can be very beneficial. If you then add dampening below the riser you'll be removing energy from the standing wave at a critical point. The question then becomes what is the most effective way to remove energy in the range you're looking for. Helmholtz is an option but only if the range is very small. You could go with a super high density fiber of foam. Even pressure equalizing bass traps would be less effective at those energy levels. I'm going to keep reading to see if I can find the best (and least pocket book intensive) solution. Last edited by kareface; 02-04-2010 at 10:48 PM. |
