I'm just happy this is region free. I ordered my copy off Amazonuk along with the complete Elm Street boxed set.

I've never seen The Fog but always heard it was a good one. Is this more of a supernatural ghost story or a monster story like The Mist?.

My copy is on the way from amazonuk. It's a blind buy and I really do hope it's better than the piece of crap remake I am watching right now.

Watch it. Loved it. Good PQ as well. Basically it's almost HalloweeN with ghosts.

The remake is a travisty compared to this gem.

John Carpenter forever.

This just in! New (long overdue) comparison at caps-a-holic exposes UK release for the upconverted, boosted, black crushed piece of shit that it is. (UK/German are identical). Honestly, there should be no more debate after this. Someone needs to step in and do it right.

Just had a quick look at my UK blu-ray which came in the post a couple of weeks ago and I agree, its definitely an upscale. I cant believe some people thought this was HD, theres no way its an HD transfer.

So the Optimum disc is a waste of money. At least it only cost me £5.29 but its still a waste of a fiver.

That comparison does make the disc look like an obvious upscale but this link shows them in a better light.

In my opinion, they only enforce it even more.

Yeah, It's still looks like shit but better than Caps-a-holics comparison I thought. I thought it looked OK back when I had a 42" screen but since upgrading to a 60" it really does look an upscaled DVD. It looks better in motion but still a turd. Hope MGM US get this released soon...

If you read the discussion on the caps-a-holic comparison the administrator claims (third comment down) the dvd caps you linked to are inaccurate and actually makes the dvd look worse than it really is, giving the illusion of an improvement in clarity in the BD. The new caps in the caps-a-holic comparison are apparently more accurate.

Bought this last week and have to echo what's already been said really. It's absolutely awful. No upgrade or improvement on the dvd at all. The black's are all crushed and a lot of detail is missing.
Both my TV's have been calibrated and it's still a very poor watch. The disc itself does have a very basic calibration tool (which is the only extra), but is completely useless.

I just saw this in the review of SF's new The Fog steelbook.

" A forthcoming review of The Fog's Optimum Home Entertainment region-free UK BD will compare both video presentations along with the movie's home video predecessors."

Does this mean a new release from Optimum? I doubt they are referring to the nearly ten year old release. And it distinguishes between SF's/Optimum's video quality and its home video predecessors.

I cannot find any news or indication that there is a forthcoming release on Optimum.

Well Optimum Home Entertainment no longer exists, they are just called Studio Canal now.
