I concur. Synapse did an amazing job with the DVD of this film, which seems to be a bit underrated in terms of their overall catalog. I would definitely upgrade, and would pass along my DVD copy to a friend.

I got to re-watch this, first time I didn't really get into it...remember it had great atmosphere but it didn't really intrigue me all that much, maybe a second viewing is required.

This was one of the movies that got me to stop blind buying genre stuff years ago. Back then I would lap up every DVD that Synapse, Blue Underground, and Anchor Bay would spew out. Each and every one was billed as a lost horror classic that was restored and better than ever! I think it was a combination of this movie and Suspiria that made me realize that some movies just ain't for me.

Definitely looking forward to this, love the weird arty horror flicks from the 70s like Messiah of Evil, Vampyres, Let's Scare Jessica to Death, Daughters of Darkness, etc. This comes up a lot in books I read, but I hadn't gotten around to seeing it yet. Here's hoping it gets fast-tracked like their last few announcements instead of getting put to the end of the queue after all the Argento movies

Anyone thinking of blind-buying this, I think it's very much a YMMV thing. I watched the DVD and don't remember a whole lot about it except that I thought it was amateurish, with not a lot else to make up for that. It looks very nice, good photography, but the acting is very weak. The actress playing Lemora is striking looking; unfortunately she has some lines to speak and that doesn't work out so well (in other words she's not much of an actress). The lengthy scene with Hy Pike as a weirdo bus driver is very hard to take as anything other than awkward mugging. Also I don't remember anything compelling about the story.
I too hoped that this was some sort of a cult masterpiece but I found it to be ho-hum. You may want to try to rent this first if you haven't seen it. Just my own comparison to something mentioned in this thread, Messiah of Evil, with its own limitations, is miles ahead of Lemora. |

I'm not sure if I'd get this or not. The truth is I watched this back in the 80's on late nite tv- at 8 years of age! It really creeped me out. I couldn't sleep for weeks. Lemora was just sinister looking. I was traumatized for life.
