So will the UHD disc spec need to be revised, agreed on, and embodied in a new version of the disc format to support HDR10+ ?
If not then how are these players supporting HDR10+ ? is it just for streaming content only?

UHD Disk Spec has already been updated to include HDR10+ and Philips / Technicolor, spec V3.2

http://fromvinyltoplastic.com/ces-2018-hdr10-update/

Panasonic 2018 UHD Blu-ray players will support HDR10+.

HDR10+ is not just for streaming, there will be discs coming with it.

FYI - Disney joins the Dolby Vision party and releases Star Wars: The Last Jedi on the 4K disc.

And somewhere a HeatEquation is crying.

(I've used that line before but what the hell, the old ones are the best)

isn't the Disney acquisition with Fox going to hinder and squash HDR10+ potential and market exposure anyways? reminds me of the HD-DVD/bluray debacle.

But he assured me that Disney had somehow rejected Dolby Vision on disc.

There was an Antonio Banderas gif and everything! (resurrecting my old joke)

I literally just used it in the Dolby Vision thread.

Wait until he sees Fox drop out of the HDR10 alliance once the sale with Disney goes through.

writing has been on the wall for HDR10+ the whole time.

Reminds me exactly of Blu Ray vs HD DVD, where you had Blu Ray which was clearly the technical superior with better specs in every single way and with support from all of the studios except a couple of hold outs that were obviously being cut a paycheck from Toshiba/Microsoft to stay the execution.

To say DV hasn't had an awful start out of the gate might be disingenuous, but it doesn't seem like anyone gave up on it and it's finally hitting its stride.

Is Samsung really being THAT greedy about paying a dollar per tv sold for a DV license? With how bad their QLEDs are, a DV bullet point on the box might actually make some sales they wouldn't otherwise have. Nobody wants or cares about HDR10+ aside from the Samsung owners that are holding a lemon and want some better PQ in a FW update (nothing wrong with that).

I had to wade through some pretty thick propaganda but...

Disney announces Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the biggest title of the year so far, in DV. Nothing yet from Fox.

Unreal is right. As in not real.

At this rate there will be more Philips HDR format discs at the end of 2018.

even the arm wrestling to get Fox to release UHD's with Dolby Atmos with the first batch of discs missing all said mixes; Fox's belief and pigheadedness that HDR10+ will catch on seems like grasping at straws.

Pieter, Is there currently even a list of HDR10+ titles avail on streaming?

The last thing I seem to have heard was the problems that still occurred at scene changes for playback with 10+ encoding. Process still in limbo?

Dolby vision discs, now 40 at my last count.. which puts them at i think over 10% of uhd. Hdr10+ is still at, drumroll........ ......... ZERO, which if my math is correct is 0% of uhd.

Heats gotta be fallin asleep crying at this point. If he wasn't banned, id offer up my dolby vision disc inserts for him to wipe those tears away. Im up to a dozen now with hell or high water this week.

I believe amazon original shows are still it, and even then wasn't there some issue where it wasn't even 'real' 10+?

Nah, you think Fox actually cares about HDR10+?

All they see is a paycheck from Samsung. If Samsung's TV division wasn't hemorrhaging money due to their awful quality, they probably could have fit in a budget for paying off a few other studios too. Be thankful their QLEDs are so bad.

I still think Warners might well release stuff with HDR10+, insider 2themax reported that the current thinking is along the lines of getting that and DV onto the same disc (HDR10+ is NOT a materially different grade of the HDR10 material, just another payload of metadata) and if that happens then they might as well do it.

That would be amazing if it indeed happens. Ive got no problem with 10+ so long as it doesnt come at the cost of dolby vision support. Samsung can have their fake meta data version for those who want it, and the rest of us can have the real deal. All parties win.
