I’m curious to know what the budget was on this. It was a three month shoot and seems to have been an extensive production.

Hopefully we get some footage/promotion for it at the D23 Expo this September.

The film is getting closer as scoring is complete. Amelia Warner is the composer.

Disappointing that Disney didn’t promote this at D23, especially since it’s one of the rare, original mid-budget films on their slate, but so hyped for this regardless.

Also, the cinematographer is Óscar Faura who did The Orphanage, The Impossible, The Imitation Game.

Daisy Ridley is a talented, believable actress IMO.
As far as swimming very long distances, it's challenging because if the water is cooler, it can actually lead to the body dropping in temperature, as if in a freezer for that length of time without any insulation to keep warm. Thankfully they were prepared with proper safety precautions and monitoring from the look of it.

Wow, I had no idea Amelia Warner was a composer now. She's a very talented actress and a wonderful human being; she starred in a horror flick I shot back in 2008. This'll be very interesting to see!

I can only imagine swimming for something like 12 hours at a time without the ability to take a rest. I'll have to look up some world records for longest time swimming.

She was one of the lead actors, not the composer. I noted in my post that I didn't know she was a composer; that's news to me!

Jerry Bruckheimer (producer) has mentioned in two separate interviews recently that they’re trying to get Disney to give this a theatrical release. He’s proud with how the film turned out, thinks it should be seen in theatres, and also claimed in a podcast interview that it received the highest test scores of the films he’s produced.

For his next project though, Bruckheimer just finished a movie called “Young Woman and the Sea,” with actress Daisy Ridley for Disney+. The film took seven years to make and was a “passion project” of Jeff Nathanson who was searching for a movie to watch with his two young daughters but couldn’t find anything.*
After reading a book about Trudy Ederle, who in 1926, was the first woman to ever swim across the English Channel, he was so inspired by her story that he auctioned the book himself then pitched it to Bruckheimer. They took the story to several studios, but Disney+ championed and ended up making it.***
They are now hoping to get the film to be released in theaters.
“It's so strong, and it certainly is something that should be seen in the theater because it's such an emotional story,” Bruckheimer says. “It turned out just terrific. Very excited [about] it.”

Glenn Stout, the author of the book the film is based on, has seen it and loved it.



Not sure if him saying “a year from now” is implying he knows the film won’t be out for another year. Seems unusual for Disney to sit on it for so long since the picture locked earlier this year and it received great test scores. Unless they are planning on giving this a theatrical release and waiting for an opportune time. I was hoping they’d get this out by the end of the summer if it was going to Disney Plus as intended.

Jerry is primarily known as the blockbuster action movie guy. Plus Disney would rather not pay additional costs to create a DCP.
