US Blu-ray players and 50hz compatibility

Ok so I bought the Panansonic DMP 60 becuase i was told it could play the BBC Life (Uk Release in 1080/50hz format) I get home and update the player to the latest firmware update. Put in the first disk of life and what do you know, it works. Ok now I move it to my room (I had to update in a diffrent room) and I set everything up. Put the first disk in again and the main menu won't even load! I get to see the advertisements but when it comes time for the menu it doesn't display it on my screen. On the player it reads PLAY and then switches to HDMI. Why did it work in the other room?
