The thread on non expensive HD camcorders

Hello! Not sure if this is the right area to talk of this, if not please move it to where it belongs.

OK, I would like to have a HD camcorder but of the less expensive ones. But I have been hearing that some are not very good despite the big names behind them.

First we have the Sony webbies:

They seem to be the most popular, but I have been reading they receive bad reviews.

Sanyo did an interesting camcorder but is nowhere to be found now:

So, which is the better trustworthy and affordable HD camcorder?

There are also some from Kodak, DXG & Flip (which have been receiving good reviews) but don't have full HD.

Honestly, I wouldn't buy any of these. They're cheap for a reason.

I'd get the Kodak one for fun. I've heard really bad things about the Flip products though. I'd use one just to have around. If I was going to so any serious shooting though I'd buy a real camcorder.

check the specs i wouldn't roll with one unless it had 720p@60fps. might be a personal taste thing but i like the look and feel of 60fps home videos

my cousin has the red sanyo. its ok i suppose. feels like it was shot from a compact digicam outstretched to 720. i don't believe this one had 60fps although i used it for like 30 secs so who knows. a cheapie aint bad quick clips and home videos.

I would probably agree with this statement. My non-HD Sony camcorder was about twice as much as the Sony Webbie MHS-CM1, and that was only a couple years ago. It has 16:9 mode, which I use exclusively even though it's not HD, and it does the trick for family videos (for now). They look good on my HDTV. Not great, but good... and good enough.

Thanks for telling me. From what you guys say, the Kodak one is decent. I look forward to these camcorders as the ones who seems more solid are far away from my budget.

I have the Kodak Playsport and it's awesome. Supports up to 32gb SDHC card and does 720p/30fps - 720p/60fps - 1080p/30fps. Plus, it's waterproof to 10 ft (though I've seen a video of someone using it at 25-30 ft when Scuba Diving and it worked perfectly)
