Default The best Blu-ray player software to use?

Hey
I have a built in Blu-ray player that came with my HP, with Vista. Now I have Windows 7 and today was the first day I have gone to use the Blu-ray player in a bit. I went to watch the new version of Fight Club and it has turned into a no go. What do I do? I've heard I would need software to play it and a bunch of other junk. What's the truth? Thanks in advance.

This should be asked in the Blu-ray PCs, Laptops, Drives, Media and Software section of this site. This section is for stand alone players so you will probably be better served in the other area.

Use VLC 2.1.2 (Freeware)

VLC is free and works across multiply OS's. FYI the core functionality of Macgo Blu-ray player has been extracted from VideoLAN Client (VLC), and anyone familiar with the top menu options in that open-source app will recognise many of the control and transport options available.

Is VLC now suddenly able to play back commercial blu-ray movies? Last I looked it wasn't, and no free software can actually playback commercial blu-ray movies. The setup I use is AnyDVD + MPC-HC.

Per the author, you need to download and place the AACS and BD+ DRM libraries and keys in order to play commercial Blu Rays.

Also I should point out that the legality of the process described above is highly questionable. The reason that Microsoft hasn't included Blu-ray playback support is that there are codecs for the video formats used on Blu-ray which are copyrighted, and so software capable of playing it back has to include proper legal licensing for those codecs. That costs money, and avoiding paying those fees by using unlicensed software isn't a good idea if you are concerned with following the letter of the law here in the US.

Well bypassing all that extra stuff which is not very legal and simply decrypting the blu-ray disc first with AnyDVD, VLC basically does the same thing as any freeware player such as MPC-HC does, which is pull the playlists. It doesn't actually display full menu's and the such. Only paid software such as TotalMediaTheatre or PowerDVD or WinDVD actually play the full blu-ray discs with menu's and all, and of course would bypass the need to decrypt the disc since these commercial players pay the licensing fees to decrypt said discs.
