Here's a matching shot from the Funi release of the first screenie you posted of the Jpn version: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5773/...db5b68fd_o.png Notice the ugly assed banding and compression artifacts in the Funi release, it's like night and day compared to the much cleaner Jpn version. Effin' Funi, man, what the shit. Edit: Also observe the incorrect gamma in the Funi version, just terrible. |

I'm hoping that FUNimation will do a better job on the Extended Edition. I plan picking it up and selling my LE of the original show when it comes out. Or, if it doesn't come with a chipboard box, I might just take a page from GWG's book and Frankenstein it.

The Japanese track on Mayo Chiki is completely ****ed. It sounds... hollow. I don't know how else to describe it. Does it get better at some point? I've only checked the first two eps. Maybe there's been an exchange program? I'm not watching the show with shitty sound like this

Noragami is a lot of fun, so it's too bad that the video quality is rather poor. Especially during that night time fight scene in episode two, where the night sky is marred by macroblocking and tons of banding.
I wish Aniplex had licensed this one. Or at least NISA. |

Have been checking out more anime I own on blu-ray for the video quality. Checked out Space Brothers v1 (sentai), TowanoQuon (sentai) and Zetman (viz).
Space Brothers had compression blocking, banding, and ghosting in it. It (the blocking and banding) wasn't as severe as other shows but it's there and it's ugly, once I see it I just can not un-see it. TowanoQuon is on par with Psycho Pass. Meaning there is banding visible in nearly every scene along with compression blocking. It looks very fugly. Zetman, wow, this one looks good. There's some very slight banding and compression but the image looks mostly flawless. I don't have any screenshots or stats to share at the moment, I'll try to get some posted later tonight. Edit: Am selling off all these shows that look horrible I bought out of good faith after enjoying the stream. I've already been cutting back on my purchases, almost stopped completely, am tired of paying for shit that hardly looks any better than the stream I saw it on in the first place. Alright, am continuing to go through my collection.
Checked out Majestic Prince collection1 (sentai), Muv Luv collection 1 (sentai), Requiem for the Phantom (funi save), Robotics;Notes vol1 (funi), One Piece Strong World (funi). Majestic Prince, MuvLuv and Requiem for the Phantom are turds, with the same old banding and compression blocking song and dance marring the picture. Requiem in particular looks particularly horrid. Haha, it's so bad at this point it takes too much energy to get angry, just have to laugh at it and shake my head. But there are a few glimpses of light at the end of the tunnel. Robotics;Notes and Strong World look very fine. Whoever encoded these at Funi got it right. There's very little to no banding in these ones. Strong World in particular is like a phoenix rising among the ashes of shit. It's been given around 32 gb of data, clocking in at 2 hours long, that contains more data than most hollywood blockbusters of similar length released on blu from what I've seen. The amount of data ranks among the best of the best up there with Criterion Collection Blu-rays. But again, pologies, won't have time to post up screenies and stats until later today after work. |
