It looks like a solid unit and Amazon is delivering it tomorrow at no extra charge.
Congratulations on your new AVR! I hope you will be very happy with it.

Does anyone have a Fandango VIP account to buy movie theater tickets? I was sent a $4 off ticket purchases code that I will not be using. If anyone wants it, send me a PM; the first person who does so can have it. It expires 3-31-20.

Posted before but will post again in case you missed it. There are several Dolby Atmos (and several other types) demo clips to download here. You will need a media player that can play .M2TS and .MKV files. If you prefer disc then I would suggest the Dolby Atmos 2015 demo disc as seen here.

Some BD or UHD BD titles that I like for Atmos: Blade Runner, Blade Runner 2049, The House With A Clock In Its Walls, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, The Great Wall, Mad Max: Fury Road and Unbroken (air battle scenes). For DTS:X, Gods Of Egypt.

Hope you enjoy your new hardware.

Unbroken was the first movie I watched after having originally installed Atmos, and the opening bombing run is still a go to demo for me to this day. That scene will test everything in your system for sure.

I feel it’s redundant. The time for words and actiins was several years ago when so called HT enthusiasts swapped out disc for a dead-in-the-water format with inferior quality.

The same industry folk who imo, insist on region coding still, hold onto rights for films out of pure spite and abandon 3D despite a niche market?

I just find your first comment a bit unimaginative. If that was the case how come so many different genres of films are produced each year? So many don't make all that much but they continue to be generated by a variety of studios. Going by that it's only about the sales numbers wouldn't your logic seem to say if we don't make films of a certain genre they won't make any money so we should make them at all?

Disks are no different than other intellectual content formats being utilized when conducting research on how to determine consumer traits. That article is just revisiting examples of who purchases media by enlisting consumer feedback in the form of short profiles of their habits as well as what they have done to maximize their enjoyment of it. Sometimes its nice to step back from the gather of stats from multiple sources and get lifestyle profiles from the consumer side on why they do what they do. People that collect various types of disks come from many backgrounds, whats inspires them to do that? Hope it turn out well.

PS I really don't see this as any different then someone who collects particular items. Be its everything related to some TV actor, a animated character, some artist, and so on. One chap I knew had a huge collection of the Looney Tunes Classic Martian character. Its was amazing what he had in his collection.

The sales numbers support all of this.
So if it is producing any amount of stable revenue, it's of value apparently. Not this press biased propaganda concerning it didn't do well in theaters. I would guess most out there ignore the long term potential of increasing exposure/interest to collectors or various media consumption categories which the content owner can choose from.

Doesn't that bother you at all, or do you look at certain genre media content coming randomly from different providers more than adequate? I know some fixate on sequels of existing content but most of the time I am quite satisfied with diversity rather then fixated collector of certain works.

I have been reading articles from Thomas K. Arnold for many years. If TK believes in publishing an article called In Defense of the Disc then so do I. YMMV. Info about TK here and pick one here.

Any word on Echo Bridge Home Entertainment?

This is the company which sells DVD packs on the cheap (and quality is subpar) and crams as many films as possible onto a few disks with no bonus features, subtitles, or anything. Usually find at gas stations or Wal-Marts. Its mostly either public domain black and whites, modern student film looking indies, tv movies from the 80s and 90s, but also Full Moon and Miramax titles a few years back.

Whatever happened to these packs and for that matter this company? I never see them anymore.

Appears their official website was taken down just recently too. Did they go under?

I'm interested in what happens to the rights of various films they currently have if they did go under?

Prom Night, From Dusk Til Dawn, and Equilibrium are a few of those films.

Can't speak about the others but the Alliance version of From Dusk Til Dawn is much better than the Echo Bridge version. Available from Amazon Canada (here).

I have that version. It's barebones, but it's in 1.85:1 and has a DD 5.1 soundtrack.

The package says 1.78 and DTS 5.1, in my database I have it as 1.85 and DTS MA 5.1, BD.com has it as 1.78 and DTS MA 5.1 (here), will check mine again soon.
