This means people aren't buying because they actually want the movies. To me that's just sad.

Limited edition horror movies have always been guaranteed fast sellers...look at TT's lightning-quick sellouts of Fright Night and Night of the Living Dead ('90).

Really it's a combination of both; horror has a more passionate fanbase than most other genres out there, and scalpers are like buzzards, quick to take advantage. That's always been the reality, nothing's changed.

I'm more mad I missed out on the slip because i'm kinda strapped for cash until Black Friday.

I would've pre-ordered right away if I wasn't in such a situation because i'm usually pretty good about getting these orders secured.

The slip is nice and I also missed out but if its going to be the same quality as the Scared Stiff slip it won't be a major loss. Kinda glad it sold out - it takes the pressure off of paying for it now. This doesn't come out until the end of January.

Probably both

It has great artwork + it's a slasher from a known cult director that's never been released on dvd.

I knew I was going to purchase the film all along, but I ordered from Diabolik instead of amazon for this one because the artwork on the slip was so good. Additionally, the last couple of Arrow releases I picked up on Amazon didn't really see the usual $22 price and as a result of the more inflated price I didn't feel as bad spending more and ordering from diabolik.

Never seen this movie before. Bought it based on the hype, sick artwork, and the slip. I like 95% of the titles I blind buy - if I don't like it, i'll trade it to someone who does. Sue me.

It sold so fast because it’s basically at the very least a free rental. The limited slipcover guarantees that if someone doesn’t like it, they’ll not only be able to easily sell it, but for probably more than what they paid.

It’s the slip for sure, but with a caveat. I like Arrow, Larraz and slashers so I was going to get it, but I might have waited longer to order it. I always want the booklet and slip if it comes with one so this being limited just moved it to the head of things to order for me. I’d imagine the same for many others.

This release has been talked about on this forum for almost a year now. People were hoping it was going to be part of a box set, myself included, but now that it isn't, the wait was over and everyone jumped on this. The $28 price on Diabolik is typical for a non-slipped release from Arrow, let alone one that people have been waiting almost a year for. With the free swag, people jumped on it, and yes scalpers too. Part of the hobby. I am not a big fan of pre-ordering months in advance, but for this release, and it came with a cool looking slip, frankly was a no-brainer. I was going to pre-order this anyway, but closer to release time. The incentive was enough for 1000 people to purchase, seems very normal. Mondo Macabro sell 500-1000 copies of their LE release in less than a week, why are some mystified by this selling out. The swag is the icing on the cake, just like the LE MM releases. Over many years, I have learned my lesson on these releases. Buy them if you want the release and whatever incentive you get for buying early, as they are usually gone in less than a week...

It was limited 1 per customer.

Well, I like slashers and have never heard of this, and because I have Prime and won't get charged until it ships, I pre-ordered from Amazon. So no slip for me, right? I like slips, but the main point is the movie.

People who didn't know about Larraz saw a few of his classic films and it would be enough for this to sell. You really need to see his films on bluray because he is a visual stylist.with color and mood. Those who haven't yet seen Symptoms, for example, if they dont want to splurge on a box, really should check it out. It might make you want to see more. I thought more people would have bought the box, but since word is sometimes slow getting around, it might take a bit before he is rediscovered. Also, Black candles is far from his best. I wouldn't recommend that as a first exposure to his films.

The blu ray market is fuelled by ignorance and hyperbole. The only reason this one sold is mostly due to the picture on the cover rather than any familiarity with the film or film knowledge more generally. He looks like Jason from Friday the 13th therefore all the mainstream horror people will buy it. They are not interested in exploring film as they are not really film fans.

I bought it because i'm a fan of the film, slashers, and Arrow. The slip was just an added bonus.
