Yes sometimes. It all depends on what I'm listening to. I may look in to getting one in the near future.

Some movies sound Just right and some movies seem way to hot. Could be just the way the movies audio was mastered.

The total cost for these items is roughly $250, REW is not a really simple user friendly program, it takes some work. That's why I haven't tried it yet but I'm going to take the plunge soon. I can post links for this gear if anyone's interested.
It doesn't need to be that expensive. You don't need any of the gear you have listed...the Radio Shack SPL meter works great. You don't need an XLR cable. You can use any audio cables you have lying around (even cheap thin free ones that come with every piece of gear you buy. I was able to only have to buy two things. One was an external soundcard, which I bought for $10 off of craigs list. (Depending on your laptop, you may not even need this) The other was a splitter to go from the REW/laptop setup to my receiver (maybe $5).

Here is a link that goes into more depth than I understand on what cabling you need for setup

http://www.hometheatershack.com/foru...on-basics.html

There is a lot of gear there, you might not need...I didn't, so don't think you need everything there. Within that link, you find additional links on how to set everything up.

It is true, that figuring out how to use it is pain and I almost gave up on it a couple of times, but once you get it figured out, it is SOOOOOO easy to use. I actually use it to calibrate my subs, and like it much better than using the tones in my receiver or AVIA. The advantage is you visualy see the sub level vs the speaker levels.

That's good news (about the cost) and thanks for the link.

Even with my two subs I still use an EQ. The room causes a lot of bumps in the 40-60 hz so it's sounds like it's ALWAYS hot. It'll go from a nice rumbling sound and then BOOM it just poured in. I was constantly riding the volume. I found after EQ I've never touched the volume because of heavy bass scenes. I never got the time to sit down and truly knock it down flat but here's my last "rushed" measurements.

Two questions for you:
1. What is the brand of your sub eq?
2. Where the heck is your gallery? I'd love to see the rest of your setup.

The EQ is what it suggested on the REW Website. Behringer (spelling) Feedback Destroyer 1124. Of all the stuff I've bought over the years the sub EQ I found to make the most difference. Only because of what I said the bass used to be really bad in my seating position.

My gallery is always in the works lol . I keep saying I have to snap some pics but I never do. I'll try my best over the weekend to get something up.

Fors i love the way they look in that pic. They really are pillars of LFE power. I see them as on mantles rather than sub risers :-)

That's the equipment list I was provided on another site, I'm glad to here that it can be done cheaper. Thanks for the links.

Mantles, yes, that was the word I was looking for. They look like they are protecting some secret passage.
