I was on the fence with one of these back in June, but at that time, there was still too much uncertainty...so I went with another manufacturer. But I am sure I would have been very happy with that sub.

Great choice! SVS makes EXCELLENT stuff! I was contemplating a PB13–Ultra myself.

Looks awesome! I can't wait to hear your report back after you have everything hooked up and thumping.

I love the looks of those subs. Man at 499 a couple weeks ago was a steal for a sub of this caliber. Still a good deal at 599 though.

$699 right now (satin black). +$100 extra for veneer.

Might find better prices on B-stock.

It is the glossy (piano) black like red_5ive owns.

Thanks! I'll report back tonight. It is hooked up and ready to go, but I'm not disciplined enough to just try it out for a few mins! Telecommuting has it's benefits, but for me this is NOT one of them!

It's a beautiful sub. I just have the satin black myself (B-stock), but I'm very, very happy with it. I'm anxious to hear your impressions. In case you need any movie scene suggestions:

Transformers: Ironhide flip
Iron Man: Emerging from the cave in Mark I suit
U-571: Depth charge scene
The Incredible Hulk: Campus fight
Knowing: Plane crash
Master & Commander: Opening naval battle

Those are my personal favorites out of the movies I own for a subwoofer demo.

Ok, took a quick break and tried it out. The results so far are not good. The sub is making a rattling/flapping sound like it's bottoming out. Sounds like a piece of paper rattling/flapping against the cone. It's doing it at maybe 70% of what I normally get from my prior sub on heavy bass scenes. For example, if I were to adjust the amp gain down 30% or so from what I'm normally used to hearing it works fine, but it's too little bass - there's just no shakin' goin' on . I disabled the Audyssey calibration and just ran a flat signal, and it's still happening. Not sure what the deal is, I hope the driver isn't defective. Anyway, I'll try it more later.

That's a bummer. If it is the driver it's pretty easy to change. Mine came with a bad driver and they shipped a new one to me pretty quickly. I've never had an issue since I changed it out. Mine wasn't doing what you're describing though. Mine had a metal-on-metal squeak, which people tell me was most likely a misaligned voice coil.

I shot an email to the person I've been working with. I'll see what they have to say.

Nothing worse when you're all excited, set it up, and Just consider it an inconvenience as I'm sure they will make it right

So I received a response from my email to AV123, and they think the sub may have been jolted during shipping. They asked me to try moving the woofer. I had tried that earlier and it was fine, no friction, but I didn't push too hard when I initially tried it. But since they asked, I moved the woofer deeper this time and sure enough there was friction. I'm sure that's the issue as the rattling only happens during moderate to heavy bass sequences when the woofer is moving significantly. I responded to the email, and I'll post more info as I get it.

I had a similar problem with a sub and it ended up being the amp. It distorted like crazy on heavy bass. Have you tried any test tones? I hope you get it worked out.

I didn't get around to trying out any test tones. To my surprise my pre-pro doesn't have any sub test tones other than the one for level calibration (it's only a month old and I didn't check until now). All my prior Yamaha flagship AVRs could send incremental sub LF test tones. Anyway, I'll dig up my sub test tone disk and try it out tomorrow.

From 20hz to almost 30hz I got almost no sound at all. When I played the Hulk sonic cannons the sub would distort like crazy...along with other known heavy LFE scenes. I changed out the amp and wham it worked like a charm and no more distortion. It could be something else entirely but it's something to consider.

Sorry to hear red....hopefully this is a minor bump towards getting this thing playing right. Keep us updated, as I would like to know how they handle these situations and what is actually the problem....good luck!

The person I'm working with has responded fairly quickly to my emails. Still in the troubleshooting phase - so far so good, just need to figure out what the solution will be. I'll keep you posted!
