I bought a DSP 12 last summer which is a huge improvement over my old cerwin vega 10" for both movies and music. This sub doesn't fart.

Another DPS owner! I have the DPS-10. What do you set your "blinking lights" volume at and what are your crossovers at (sub/receiver)? I have the crossover on my sub set to Direct and the one in my receiver set to 120hz. I really can't tell where my volume is set on the sub because of those stupid blinking lights.

Hey Shultz... Don't know if you want to try this but Curt at velodyne says for DPS and DLS models.

Quote:
Here's a guide that will help you know where your volume is. To reset, press 1-2-3-4 and then 4-3-2-1. That will take the sub to "reset" which is volume '30' of a possible '100'. Every quick touch up or down will change the volume number by 2. So one touch up would be number '32'.
Page 7 of the manual says it resets to 35/100....
Hope that helps.

Thanks Slec. Does that mean hit volume up 4 times, then down 4 times?

The manual says this:

VOLUME Control
This control allows you to balance the output from the subwoofer to the main speakers in your
system. This control should be set to achieve similar volume level from between both the main
speakers and subwoofer. When pressing volume up or down, the speed at which the power light
blinks indicates subwoofer volume - the faster the blinking, the louder the unit plays. After the
volume is changed (up or down), there will also be two sets of center LED blinks. Slower blinks
represent tens and faster blinks represent ones. If the LED blinks three times, pauses, then blinks
six times, this means that the volume is set at 36. The volume range is from 1 to 99.

I am so

1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1 has to do with the EQ settings where
1= movies
2 = R&B-Rock
3 = Jazz-Classical
4 = Games

Then reverse the order

You have your volume answer now but as for xover it really depends on your speakers and your amp. If you control xover with your amp then put the DSP on direct. If you set the xover on the dsp then set it according to speaker size. For example
bookshelf up to 6" drivers - set to 80 - 100Hz
towers up to dual 6" drivers - set to 40 - 60Hz
Note these xover levels vary on your own preference.
Hope that helps.

Hey guys, I have a velodyne sub, one of the Impact-10's. It's a nice little sub but doesn't go much lower than my mains. Anyway, that's not the point. It says in the manual to always use a splitter and connect to both the left and right input from the receiver's sub out so it doesn't shut down from lack of signal (auto off/on is only option). I do that now, but I was wondering if it wouldn't be better to use just the left input alone? I ask this because I have read in other posts that using the left input alone bypasses the crossover. I have mine set to the highest crossover as it is now, so does it really matter? Will I notice a difference?

The crossover has a 'direct' setting, essentially the highest crossover point.

Using the splitter gives the sub a 3db boost in output. Everything i've seen from the guys at Velodyne suggests the splitter is the way to go.

I was wondering what I should set the Phase control to? I have the DEQ 15R, my options for changing the Phase are 0,90,180,and 270. I have Klipsch F-3's for fronts (double 8" woofers,which barely produce any bass). Any suggestions

There is no magic point for phase setting. It all depends on your other speakers and the room acoustics. Go to A Guide to Subwoofers thread. It has a sticky. Scroll all the way to the end in the original post. You will find detailed explanation on how to set your phase.

Does the manufacturer/quality of the splitter matter much?

The quality of the splitter will determine if interference is brought into the signal. A well shielded splitter should more than suffice, no need to spend a ton of money.

Doing a quick search, something similar to this would be fine and I'm sure Big Daddy could recommend some that are cheaper from one of his great sources

In case you are in the market for a Velodyne subwoofer, Audioholics Store has a big sale on them.

I started off with a single SPL-1200R & feel in love with it so much that I had to get another one. Dang!!! what a difference running twin subs in HT & 2 channel makes.

And now with the special Outlaw is having on the Velo SMS-1 @ $399 w/ free shipping...I had to go for it.

I did call Curt at Velo first to make sure it's worth the investment because the SPL series already has a built in room corrrection system. Curt said to go ahead & get the SMS-1 because it's a much more indepth program that will inhance the SPL's performance to another level. That was good enough for me. This should be fun.

About a week ago I ordered the Velodyne SMS-1 from Audioholics store. My problem is that I have 4 subwoofers in the home theater room. According to audio research at the National Research Council of Canada and at Harmon International, 4 subwoofers is the optimum number. More than 4 will not give you any significant additional benefit.

I have a solution. You send me the Velodyne and you keep your current subwoofers in use to keep anything from becoming excessive.
