I'm in the UK and want to buy a US Blu Ray player that will display on my UK Plasma TV (Panasonic Viera).

Could somebody make a recommendation to me. I don't want to pay over the odds. The PS3 I have was a US one and it stopped reading all Blu Rays and games a while back , so I'm simply looking to replace the Region A compatibility.

I'd also need a player that would allow me to safely use a step down converter.

I'd be very grateful for any help.

I'm thinking about buying.
All Sony BD and X Series UHD players convert 50i signals to 60hz, again provided the disc is region free or A/1 compatible.

Can anyone confirm this? I have a Oppo BDP-83 but the region free mods (for Blu-Ray) are no longer available. I never knew that the modchip for the newer Oppos is compatible.

You can read the OPPO threads in the BLURAY Player section.

I'm 95+% sure people have checked the same $50 plug in mod on all the various models 83/93/103/203. I want to say rdodolak used the same module on several player all the way up and it still worked. I am 100% sure this works on the 93/95/103/105/203/205
including the Darbee versions.

Thanks hariseldon. I think its worth a try for $50--I can always either resell it or possibly even purchase a newer used Oppo and install it on that if it isn't compatible on my 83.

My Sony UBP-X700 UHD player does indeed play Lark Rise to Candleford Season 2 discs (1080/50i). On my Sony XBR43x800D television. The BluRay display says 1080/50p, the TV just says 1080p, it doesn't say the refresh rate, so it's probably as said here, converted to 60 fps.

My Sony US BDP-S6500 BluRay player however, WILL NOT play the Lark Rise to Candleford Season 2 discs (1080/50i). It won't even try to display them, just kicks back out when I select the disc from the player menu.

Is the main list on this thread updated anymore at all? I am sure many of those players are now end of life? I might replace my BDP-S6500 with something that can output 60 Hz but don't want to buy another UHD player (pricey!) since this is just an exercise room setup.

Any 4k BD player sold in the US WILL play 50hz disks. And will convert them to 60hz.

Most LG and Samsung 1080 Blu-ray players will convert 25fps/1080i for USA HD televisions (although the LG player may need to be set to 1080i rather than Auto in order to prevent flickering).
Most Sony 1080 Blu-ray players will not do the conversion.
