Maybe we could include players that can play any region as well: I know that the Momitsu and the Sherwood clone not only play PAL (50hz) but can be manually modified via the remote control to play any region code as well.

Per a previous post, will the Momitsu/Sherwood upconvert from 50hz to 60hz, or will it simply output a 50hz signal?

Default 50hz UK BBC Life - Not very good

My unfortunate introduction to this 50hz issue came in the form of purchasing BBC UK's Life blu-ray. From my understanding combing these forums, the UK version of Life is region free 50hz content. Indeed, the US PS3 does not play it.

I first purchased a Samsung BD-C5500 and popped in the disc. It plays, but it judders a LOT. You can noticeably see the hiccups almost every second. Returned that player, and purchased a Samsung BD-P1600. Plays BBC Life, but same juddering problem, no improvement.

I can confirm my Sony KDL-40Z4100 LCD and Yamaha receiver aren't the issue, because I tried hooking my PC up to play this using PowerDVD, and it works beautifully.

Arrrgh what a headache! Anybody having this juddering issue on these compatible 50hz U.S. players???

Default Problem solved!

I figured out what was causing the juddering issue. It was one of the various features of my Sony LCD TV, called "Cinemotion". Turning that off magically solved everything! No more judder!

I do not have the BD65, but I'm getting the BD85 in 24-48 hours, and I will try a region-free 50hz disc.

The BD85 plays 50i content. I tried a region free steelbook version of Righteous Kill. According to the status bar, it reads the disc as 1080/50i, and outputs it at 1080/50p.

You do need a 50hz compatible display though.

Last years BD60 also played 50hz discs, so I'm not really sure. The manual states it does not support 50hz. (The BD35 also played 50hz discs, but that was before a firmware update)

So, we purchased the Samsung 4600 BD player (we were going to mount to the wall) and am wondering if that will play the BBC UK Life which sounds like it is 50 hz.

Thanks in advance if anyone knows.

Yes, the firmware update had no effect on the ability to play 50hz on my BD85.

I have a Insignia NS-BRDVD3 Blu-Ray Player and have been able to play the movie and all bonus features from the UK releases of Warlords, Ip Man, and Ichi (only extra is a PAL trailer). I've also been able to successfully play region free PAL DVDs such as the new UK DVD of Blood on Satan's Claw.

My TV is a 40" Samsung LN40B630 1080p 120hz LCD, which I've recently read does not support displaying PAL content.

Anyone know if the Top Gear Vol. 3 Blu-ray works on a USA PS3?

I heard mixed information that it is 50hz, can anyone confirm?

Thanks. Have you tried it with any 1080/50i encoded titles?

I own the following UK imports:
I Sell The Dead
Ichi
Ip Man
Metallica - Français pour une nuit
Red Cliff SE* (just received this one, will try to watch all disc 1 trailers this weekend)
Warlords

I've watched them all been able to play all extras. Someone mentioned Ip Man's extras were unplayable in another thread, but my player has no issues with playing any of them including all trailers. Are none of the extras or trailers HD 50hz PAL, just PAL? What should I press on the remote to see if it is 1080i/p/50hz?

I would be willing to try a 50hz disc if there is either a really cheap one to buy off Amazon UK, or if someone would be willing to loan one to me.

Default LG Bh200

The LG Bh200 can convert to 60; the Bh100 cannot.
I tested this out on the UK Blu-ray of The Three Burials of Melquidas Estrada which is 1080i/50 and the Bh200 played it at 1080p/60; the Bh100 could not.
