In standard 2D.

So, I emailed them back explaining that I was grateful for the replacement copy but I needed the 3D version replaced. Also, where do I return the standard Blu-Ray sent in error.

Two months later and no response.

I email again. No response.

I email again using a different email address but referencing my case number.

No response.

June arrives. I decide to use a third email address and again explain the situation about needing a replacement 3D version of Hugo.

They respond with the same request as before (name, address, etc.). I supply the requested info and wait.

They sent me another Hugo standard 2D Blu-Ray.

Now, I have two sealed copies of Hugo on Blu-Ray as well as my broken 3D Blu-Ray.

I think I am going to give up.
I love that movie but Paramount has closed the door on 3D. I just looked at E Bay and there numerous copies available new and used at reasonable price. I had a copy of GUN FURY 3D that went south on me and I was able to,purchase a replacement before it went out of print.

I remember seeing this in the theatre, it had strong 3D pop, does the 3D Blu-ray have the same pop?

Did you replace yours with the American version? When I realised that the US version was fullscreen I replaced it immediately.

My US version from Paramount has the correct aspect ratio of 1:85 to 1. When you say “full screen” are you referring to 1:37 to 1?

This is first 3d movie I watched at home on my projector. Had family over and I think we were all underwhelmed, i know I was. I think I was falling asleep at one point. I felt bad that it was such a disappointment that I wanted to sample another movie to see if it was better. Enter Pacific Rim

We ended up watching the whole thing late at night, and my uncle said after it was the best movie experience he ever had. He's a big movie buff, too.

However, this was years ago. I only remember that Hugo at the time seemed boring to me and maybe the 3d couldn't save it...I will have to give it another go in the near future and report back.

I searched the thread I think this is first time it has been mentioned (in this thread). Wow. Is 1:78 opened up or cropped?

Hmm Iím honestly not sure. I thought I had read it here, but maybe it was in AVS forum or an Amazon review or something. Iím not sure if itís opened up or cropped, maybe someone could confirm, but my memory tells me opened up? Either way I also wanted a region free version and it was (and still is) so cheap used so it was a no brainer

I didn't realize there were different aspect ratios for the US and UK discs until reading these posts. I own the Paramount US release with the slipcover which was purchased back when it was originally released. I just popped it in now to test it and it is definitely 16:9/fullscreen. There's just a very thin sliver of black bars on the right and left sides. The image fills the top and bottom of the screen. I didn't remember at the time what aspect ratio I saw it in when it was in the theatre.

I'm assuming my US disc is opened up, not cropped, as cropping it would look horrific and it would lose way too much information. Strange though that it was opened up for the US release but released as 1:85:1 in the UK (apparently?). Though another poster in here said his US Paramount 3D disc plays as 1:85:1. Now I'm confused - was it re-released in the US in 1:85:1 later?

I think it's common for 1:85:1 films to be opened up to 16:9 for blu-ray by some studios, since the difference is so small. But it's odd how my copy fills the top and bottom, but has slim bars on the sides.

Yes! It's one of my favorite titles. And it should have been voted Oscar's "Best Picture" that year instead of the wonderful but gimmicky (silent) "The Artist." Fantastic 3D and the imagination of America's greatest director (and film preservationist) Martin Scorsese.

This is definitely one of the greatest 3-D films ever made, and the 3-D Blu is stunning to behold. I absolutely love this movie, especially since I’m a huge fan of both Georges and Marty. Practically perfect in every way; simply magical. Brilliant use of 3-D.
