Default The Last Story coming to U.S. - Operation Rainfall Victory

American RPG fans scored another big victory as The Last Story has finally been announced for release on the Nintendo Wii in the United States. Initially the developer said this great RPG would not be localized for U.S. release, but thanks to fan-based Operation Rainfall it is due for release Summer 2012. Operation Rainfall had already scored a victory in getting a U.S. release for Xenoblade Chronicles, due out in April 2012. Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story are widely viewed as two of the best console RPG's of this generation. Day 1 buy for me! The last game they are pushing for American release is Pandora's Tower, but so far no luck on that one.

The Last Story will be sold in North America this summer, Nintendo confirmed this morning.

As part of its Nintendo Direct video presentation, Nintendo of America executive Reggie Fils-Aime revealed that Xseed Games will publish the Wii role-playing game in North America.

In June, Nintendo said that it had "no plans" to bring the game to North America. However, the game's westward expansion began in November, when Nintendo announced that The Last Story would arrive in Europe on February 24.

[UPDATE] Xseed has confirmed that The Last Story will be out exclusively on the Wii this summer.

The latest game from Mistwalker and longtime Final Fantasy developer Hironobu Sakaguchi, The Last Story puts players in the shoes of Zael and a band of fellow mercenaries on a search for treasure. Set on Lazulis Island, the story follows Zael as he tries to find an escape from his mercenary past to become a true knight. Unique among RPGs, The Last Story features multiplayer modes in the form of co-op, deathmatch, and team deathmatch for up to six players.
UPDATE: Here's the pre-order link for The Last Story on Amazon.

It really is a great game, but unfortunately I never finished it.

One thing I always questioned playing older RPGs were funny things like "Where are the toilets?" "Why don't the characters eat?" "Why are there so many people in the castle but no houses for each person?" etc.

Well, I realized "The Last Story" answered all these by making the towns and castles as detailed as they could. And with that, just exploring around a town made it insanely long to do... so it was hard to actually 'go forward' in the storyline, especially with side-quests happening once you talk to people...

So excited for this one and Xenoblade! I've already got both pre-ordered! I'm hoping XSEED does some sort of pre-order bonus for this, like a mini artbook or something.

As far as Operation Rainfall goes not only has it convinced Nintendo to bring Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story to the U.S., it's also encouraged major pre-order numbers. Xenoblade Chronicles, despite only being sold by Nintendo direct and Gamestop currently has over 116,000 Ameircan pre-orders, 9th highest of any game. I'm really hoping that success carries over to The Last Story, which is getting a wider release to encourage more Japanese RPG's to be released in the U.S.
