![]() Rear projection TV’s are now out of production and are not being manufactured by any company anymore including Mitsubishi Consumers have voted with their wallets and they prefer more expensive flat screen displays instead of large thick lower cost rear projectors. Now there is no more rear projector TV’s being made for the consumer market since Mitsubishi was the last company to exit the rear projector business. Ceiling mounted Front Projectors are still in production from many different companies but that could change in the next decade as flat screens increase in size above 100 inches. Large 1080P flat screens have also fallen in price recently with 70 inch 120Hz flat screens costing only $1,499 at Walmart. 90 inch and 80 inch flat screens are also now much cheaper compared to a year ago. The 90 inch Sharp LC-90LE745U flat screen sells for around $9,999 at retail stores. Consumers prefer spending around $10,000 on a 90 inch flat screen instead of spending around $4,000 on a 92 inch DLP rear projection HDTV. For a limited time retail stores and mail order companies have a limited stock of 1080P Mitsubishi rear projectors in stock. Walmart currently has the Mitsubishi 92 inch WD-92742 in stock for only $3,998. The following are select word for word quotes from the TWICE article “Mitsubishi Electric Video Sales America (MEVSA) Monday confirmed reports that it notified service centers it has halted the manufacture of rear-projection TVs and told TWICE that it has nearly completed phasing out inventory.” “Max Wasinger, MEVSA executive VP of sales, said Monday that there is “minimal inventory left in stock,” and there are no plans for special close out pricing to follow.” ““All retail dealers will need to sell out their current inventories of 73-, 82-, 92- DLP TVs and 75- LaserVue DLP TVs” Wasinger said.” “But this year, the arrival of bargain behemoth LCD sets of 70 to 90 inches from Sharp and others left little breathing room for rear-projection technology, which still required bulb replacements and suffered from weaker viewing angles.” “Although it was wasn’t the first in the rear-projection TV market, Mitsubishi ended up being the best and last mass market manufacturer of the technology.” http://www.twice.com/articletype/news/mitsubishi-exits-rptv-inventory-almost-gone/104133 Last edited by HDTV1080P; 12-03-2012 at 11:42 PM. |

I am not sure, however they might continue to make lamps for another 7 years. That is only a guess. You would need to contact Mitsubishi to make sure since that is only an educated guess.

![]() Amazing deal on a 92 inch 3D HDTV 1080P display Some are upset that low cost rear projectors are not being made anymore by any consumer electronics company (Ceiling mounted front projectors are still in production by many different companies). Mitsubishi announced this week that they are no longer making rear projectors. I have never been a big fan of Mitsubishi rear projector technology like some people are. The Mitsubishi off angle viewing is not that good and they all add 3:2 pulldown judder to 1080p/24 signals instead of offering a pure film quality repeating frame method without 3:2 pulldown. However on the Amazon website the Mitsubishi WD-92742 92 inch 1080P 3-D rear projection HDTV that has a list price of $4,999 is on sale for a clearance price of only $2,788 with free shipping. The DLP rear projection picture quality is not as good when compared to a high-end plasma or LCD screen with LED backlighting. The $2,788 price is a bargain when compared to the cheapest 90 inch flat screen on the market that costs around $10,000 at Best Buy. The Sharp LC-90LE745U 90 inch flat screen has a list price of $11,000 and sells for $9,999 at Best Buy. It might take up to 3-5 years for 90 inch flat screens to fall in price below $5,000. So any consumer, business, or church looking for a large 92 inch Mitsubishi rear projector might want to consider getting one for $2,788 which is a bargain. 92 inch screens offer excellent movie experience and are great for business presentations. Drops DLP Displays: Goodbye RPTVs Forever
Mitsubishi Electric was the last hold-out in the rear projection TV (RPTV) business, and now the company is dropping the line, CE Pro has learned. Mitsubishi Electrical Visual Solutions America, Inc. (MEVSA), the group in charge of the RPTV and other video product lines for both residential and commercial markets, has sent a letter to authorized service centers (reprinted below) indicating they are “discontinuing the manufacture of 73”, 82” and 92” DLP projection televisions. http://www.cepro.com/article/mitsubi...rptvs_forever/ |

I don't understand when this news came out; was it in 2012, and was just confirmed as per the last member's post?
At any rate, disheartening news; I was considering one of the Mitsubishi rear pros to replace my Sony SXRD with just due to the massive size/price value relationship that just can't be ignored...ultimately, my wife didn't really care for the picture quality on these sets. But it really puts into perspective and raises questions for those still running rear pro HDTVs....what will happen to parts availability? Will there still be customer support? Is this now the time to finally go with some kind of plasma or LCD flat screen? Etc, etc... |

I see, Zip; thanks for the info...from what I was able to tell, these were STILL being sold at that time by retailers and even via TV distribution channels such as "QVC" and "HSN"...

I have the Philips 55PW9363 rear projection TV. My troubleshoot revealed that I have sound but no picture. I took off the rear cover to check fuses/lamps and found that when I have the room completely dark, you can see the tubes glowing slightly at the neck where it plugs into the circuit for each tube when I power up. Was told that HVG needs replaced, but cannot find one. Is the PCB that the HVG is mounted to available as a part for repairs, or do I have to replace the HVG only? Again, can't seem to find the HVG as an available component. HELP !!
