I wasn't really paying attention to wrestling when Punk was in WWE. But I started watching modern wrestling again around the time of his AEW debut. It may have been the freshness of watching again, but several months straight or so was really exciting. Ppv's have generally been fantastic peaks, though. Ever since he left and with the integration of ROH I've started to skip around more on Dynamite. Rampage is often too much filler for even an hour program. I've actually been going back and watching more 80s and 90s wrestling again and enjoying the nostalgia. There were a lot of squash matches for sure, but I do like the old style of character/feud build-ups. And I kind of miss just plain old fashioned rasslin'. For example, I watched an old WCW Saturday Night with an opener of Dustin Rhodes vs. Jake Roberts and it was pretty much a mat wrestling clinic. There's also something special about the oldschool kayfabe era crowds. The reaction of Ron Simmons winning the world title is still up there as one of the better crowd reactions of all time, imo, and a nice contrast versus the more modern middled aged smart mark , diehard fan crowds.

I don’t know if cursed is the right word. When you do something as dangerous and completely stupid as he did, lucky is how I would describe it, lucky it wasn’t much worse.

I won't watch the clip but I have very little sympathy when these spot clowns keep doing crap like that

I don't see it, they have never even come close to that size crowd in it's existence. I just looked it up, their largest ever live attendance was 20,000 at Arthur Ashe. Wembley has over 90,000 seats.

It might be easier just cuz US wrestling doesn't go over to the UK a lot. So this ends up being a big thing for the region, maybe easier than say here.

It’s not only the uk it’s the entire of Europe pretty much. There will probably be more non brits there than anything. There’s not even 90k AEW viewers in the uk so if every single uk fan booked a ticket they still wouldn’t sell out lol
But like I say there will be thousands from across Europe probably the odd few from across the pond too. Going to be interesting to see how it pans out. |
